Purdue has 16 returning starters, Marshall has 10. Purdue's experience and Marshall's inexperience showed. The Herd fumbled the ball away in the red zone twice, and allowed way too many yards rushing.
Devon Johnson only carried the ball 11 times for 89 yards (8.1 YPC, which is below his average of 8.6 YPC last season). New starting QB, Michael Birdsong, was a pedestrian 23-26 for 234 yards, with 2 TDs and 1 INT. A big drop off from Rakeem Cato numbers, but a whole bunch better than Cato performed early in his Marshall career.
