I'm so sick of hearing who got snubbed and did the committee get it right? The 4 teams that made it are all deserving. Anyone who doesn't think Alabama is one of the 4 best teams in college football, that's your right but more people with far more football knowledge and experience disagree. I really don't care why they left someone out because the criteria changes from team to team, week to week and year to year. Exhibit A. Ohio State was certainly one of the top 4 teams in 2015 but didn't make the playoff because they didn't win their conference. This year, Alabama was in the same situation and they made it. They're going to say what they have to say to justify their decisions. Last week #5 thru #8 were supposedly very close. Alabama doesn't play, Ohio State beats #4 Wisconsin and this week the 31 point loss was too much to overcome. I agree but why not say that last week? Too bad Ohio State didn't get to play Iowa again like Georgia did Auburn - the Tigers only beat the Dawgs by 33 when they played the first time. Actually the committee should thank Ohio State for sparing them from picking Wisconsin. I give them credit for hanging in there but had Ohio State executed a little better they would have won by 30 points - the Badgers simply don't have the athletes to hang with Ohio State let alone Clemson, Bama or Georgia. It would have been ugly.
The bottom line is, you can't control all this committee stuff. There's no consistency from week to week. They really shouldn't even do a ranking until the final week in my opinion - all they're doing is giving loudmouths like Clay Travis, Skip Bayless and Paul Finebaum something to bitch about. I could care less what those bozos have to say.
The only thing you can control is your love for your team. I've loved the Buckeyes since 1969 and the only way that could possibly change is if they hired Brian Kelly or Jim Harbaugh to be our coach. I don't see that happening so I think I'm good. I went over to Indy this weekend and had a great time supporting my Buckeyes. I would have loved to see them make the playoffs but playing USC will be a great bowl game - it's like the old days and playing in the Rose Bowl - only this year they're in Dallas. I love football season and I'll be sad to see it end. All the other stuff is just that...stuff. So congrats to the teams heading to the playoff and enjoy bowl season, it will all soon be over soon and we'll have to wait another 8 months for football - just enjoy the damn sport!

Without doubt. 90% of the controversy, in the first few years, have been inconsistency between what they SAID, in the prelim rankings, and what they eventually did. For my money, the committee made a HUGE mistake last year, when they elevated OSU over Penn State... who had a CCG win AND a Head to Head win. That decision put them in a box. After doing that? There was NO WAY they could select OSU over Bama this year. I think, in BOTH cases, the Conference Champion should have been given deference. But, that's just me. As you say, the USC-OSU game is going to be CLASSIC! BTW>>> Here's a handy guide to which bowl games will be the most fun to watch! www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaafb/every-2017-18-college-football-bowl-game-ranked-by-watchability/ar-BBGbZ6j?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartandhp

College Football is the only sport that finishes the regular season, and then goes straight into a twilight zone moment where no one knows what is happening
I think people would quit bitching as much if there was just a solid finish line...if teams knew what they had to do to get in the playoffs, the sport would be way better...
The committee continues to pull the rug out from under its fans, coaches and players...
I just watched an exciting weekend of football, and two days later I'm questioning the validity of the conference championship games
I feel like the postseason is still an experiment instead of a finished product

The stupidest part of that is over-riding a head-to-head result We're in total agreement there, Hen. We go through all these metric analyses because the teams don't play each other. Then, when they actually DO play each other? They ignore it. Major dumbth.

One point to disagree, you can't turn on your first love even when they hire a dog. I know because Bama hired Lane Kiffin. Ugh

I enjoy it but that committee format and deliberately rigged system make the sport much less than it could be.

Next weekend will be really special with the D1 semifinals and the DIII championship game on Friday night.....and none of these teams competing for a title were 'voted' into these semis and finals. I'll be checking in on the PSEGs during commercial breaks only.

I agree with not releasing the CFP poll until the final one...once all games have been played and all data is in. The NCAA Basketball Committee doesn't release weekly "if the season ended today" brackets. There are plenty of others in the media who do their own. But I assume ESPN gets good ratings from their weekly show so I assume it's not going anywhere.

What's stupid is the criteria changes from week to week, year to year. I could care who's in the playoff based on what they've done after 6 games. It gives all the talking heads something to talk about but truthfully, I wish they had less to talk about! It's just a waste of time if you ask me. i never watched one of the rankings shows or wasted any time thinking about them because the only ranking that matters is the last one - it should be the only one.

Just one more poll. I have never watched one of those shows. We could all vote and the value would be the same as the weekly show.
