Not fair to hijack Duck's thread... so, I'm moving my post to a new topic.
"MSESPN" has been losing revenue at a fierce rate (>10% per year) for several years now. Their business model is unsustainable.
HUGE changes are coming in the way football is funded, and how it is run. There has been a lot of talk this year about the decline in viewership and ticket sales in the NFL. College football is slightly harder to track, but.... what data is available is showing a similar decline.

In the most recent tax reform law, college football fans are NO LONGER able to deduct the cost of college sport seat licenses. I have already heard from a number of friends who are cancelling (or planning to) their season tickets for football and basketball. In some cases, they were paying ~$5-10K per year just for the LICENSE to be able to purchase tickets. Hard to say just how wide-spread this is. But, for sure.... it just got significantly more expensive to be a big-time college sports fan.
I think the damn is about to break. Across the country, governments are subsidizing college sports programs at a pretty high rate.

(Note" "Allocated" in this charts means, "subsidized by state or local government, or student fees)
I think, most normal people have no clue as to just HOW MUCH money is being spent this way. If overall support for sports is dropping, the support for this kind of spending is dropping even faster.
If what I believe is true, that's good news for people who want a larger playoff. They'll have to try everything to keep revenue up. Probably much sooner than they wanted. But, I think they're bucking against a stronger tide.
