1. North Dakota State vs James Madison - good game. JMU ran a great fake punt at the end of the first half but only got 3 points out of it. Someone needs to explain why Fargo, North Dakota is able to dominate this division - the players certainly aren't going there for the weather.
2. Kansas City fails again - up 21-3 after scoring a TD late in the first half and they fail to score again - at home. Mariota has to be the first QB in NFL playoff history to throw a TD pass to himself. KC needs a change - Andy Reid is snake bit in the playoffs.
3. Rams/Falcons - worst possible match-up they could get. A young, talented team hosts the Super Bowl runner-up from a year ago with tons of veteran talent. The result was pretty much what you'd expect. Philadelphia needs a cold, cold day to neutralize the playing field next week. Not sure Fowles has it in him. I wish the Falcons were going to Minnesota and New Orleans was playing Philly - a Minnesota/New Orleands championship game would be awesome. I guess we'll get it a week early.
4. Many Buckeye fans were not happy when Butler's Chris Holtman was named head coach. After OSU drilled number 1 MSU yesterday those same doubters are in love with him. Having watched Holtman coach in the Big East the past 4 years I knew the Bucks were getting a solid coach but equally important, Marc Loving used up his eligibility and he's no longer around to drag down everyone else. I said it many times, Loving would be the downfall of Thad Matta and he was. Why he didn't tell him to move on, I'll never know but you can't let one player do whatever he wants because the rest will grow tired of it. Holtman has everyone's attention - great hire by the Buckeyes.
5. Officiating - its horrible. Too many missed calls. Too many replays. Too many missed calls after using replay. Too many vague rules that get interpreted differently by every crew. And I'm only talking about football. Basketball is worse - I know its a difficult call but if I see one more 260 pound center go flying across the floor when a 170 guard 'runs' in to him on a drive to the basket I'm going to puke. It's ridiculous. And how is trying to stand in the way of a person driving to the basket even a defensive move? 'I'm going to hustle over and try to stand in his way instead of making an attempt to defend him.' - it rewards teams who get beat on defense - it makes me sick. Thank you Dean Smith.
6. The Golden Globes - First, I agree on the winners. I've seen Lady Bird and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri and really enjoyed both. The acting was superb. I've said numerous times that Sam Rockwell would win an Oscar with the right role and he got it this year - he is awesome in Three Billboards. What I can't stand is the political commentary by the flurry of winners - I don't watch award shows to be preached too - last night may have been the worst in terms of political posturing I've ever seen. Save the politics for politicians.
