Driving home tonight, I caught the tail end of an interview with Scott Frost on the XM Radio College Football channel. I wish I'd heard all of it. He was very impressive.
I never heard him "take the bait" that was offered ( a couple of times) to criticize the CFP committee's decision to bypass UCF. He did say he'd like to see some changes made. Said he grew up not liking subjective sports, like Ice Skating.
When ask for his top priority for changes, his answers surprised me...
1) Force ALL FBS teams to play an equal # of conference games, 2) Force ALL FBS teams to play ONLY against other FBS teams.
I would agree whole-heartedly with both. He made a great point: If the B1G only played 8 conference games, there's a 33% chance Ohio State wouldn't have HAD to play Iowa, and would have been in the playoffs. And, if the SEC played 9 games, there's a 33% chance that UGA and Bama would have already played each other, and ONE of them would NOT have been in.
He also said, (and this was the smartest part)... "Don't blame the SEC for this.. they're doing what's SMART for THEM".
Someone... either the NCAA (as if..) or Dr. Pepper, whoever.. needs to enforce some standards on the whole. Force some semblance of conformity.
If I were a Cornhusker fan, I'd be encouraged.

I would agree with this but since those things didn't happen the outcome is what it was destined to be. I'm hoping Frost does his magic in Nebraska because someone on the west side needs to start challenging Wisconsin - the east beats the hell out of each other and the Badgers sail to the BIG championship.

Alabama tried to persuade the SEC to play more conference games.
That idea got zero support.
I can't imagine minds have changed.

It won't change until the SEC is left out for playing teams like Samford, Coastal Carolina, Mercer and Wofford. I'm not suggesting that the right teams weren't selected - I'm just saying there's no reason for the SEC to add a 9th conference game and eliminate games against lower level competition because it hasn't hit them where it hurts. Why should they?

Why should they? Exactly...The SEC is doing just fine (see all-SEC final) as they are. Some outside body will have to impose fairness upon them. But, who? Maybe Carl, the Dr. Pepper guy can put Steve Smith Sr on that.
