Let's just call the Big 10 what it really is...the Big 2.
The Big 10 tries to be the SEC, but consistently ends up being all about Michigan and Ohio State. This rivalry defines the Big 10. Wisconsin always under-performs. Penn State is occasionally good for half a second. Rutgers and Maryland were strictly market additions, Nebraska is a loser, and the rest? blugh
Ohio State and Michigan are on a conclusion course, with the winner most likely winning the Big 10 and heading to the playoff.
Michigan is looking better and better every week. Is this the year that Harbaugh gets over the hump and beats Ohio State? Ohio State owns a 6-game winning streak over the Wolverines. Eventually the ball is going to bounce Michigan's way.

Hopefully the Buckeyes 6 defensive starters who were out injured will be back soon because they’re giving up huge chunks of yardage. Fortunately they were playing a young Minnesota team because their mistakes killed them. Yesterday OSU played without Bosa, Cooper, Landers, Arnett, Harrison and another LB whose name escapes me. That, however, is no excuse for the shitty run blocking which was putrid. But take 6 starters off any defense and the performance is going to suffer.

Evil, buddy, that observation is dead wrong and very perception driven. Check the facts :
9 different schools have won B10 football championships/co championships in the BCS/CFP era (98-17)
4 B10 teams have won as many or more B10 championships as Michigan
Every single B10 team except newbies Md, Rut and Neb, have won B10 football championships. ( SEC can't say that )
The B10 has actually been more competitive than the SEC as far as winning titles.
Your perceptions probably come from the '10 year war' of Bo and Woody.

What a difference 2 weeks make - Michigan had to come back to beat Northwestern and now they're the greatest thing going. We'll see.
I will say Wisconsin is never going to be elite with Hornibrook at QB - he is so limited it's not funny. All you need to do is control the running game and Wisconsin is done. In the west they can bludgeon teams, not so easy to do against the east teams. I was laughing when the 'experts' were picking them for the playoffs before the season started.
Michigan State is a good program. Penn State is a good program. Wisconsin is a good program. Iowa, Northwestern have solid coaching and on any given weekend can cause good teams fits. Purdue and Minnesota are heading in the right direction.

Can they keep it up?

My observation was spot on...Ohio State and Michigan have beaten the weaker conference teams and now will battle it out for a chance to play Northwestern in the Big 10 championship what are the odds Northwestern beats Michigan or Ohio State? 2-team conference at least Maryland and Purdue gave us some excitement this year though could Maryland ever become a power in the Big 10? It's an interesting discussion

I fully expect Michigan to beat the ever loving crap out of Ohio State next week. They're THAT much better.
But, the game is in Columbus, and Ohio State has beaten them what? Like 14 out of 15? I think the Buckeyes are inside their heads. So, who knows?
In general, I agree with you EV. The B1G is only as good as their two ANCHOR programs. When either one of them (Michigan & OSU) is bad, the entire conference is viewed as "weak". That's just the way it is.
The same is true in the B12. Other teams can be good, but, if either Texas or OU are really bad? The entire conference suffers.
The B12 this year is as competitive as I've ever seen it. The top 6 teams are all virtually equal. OU might have started the season a little ahead in talent, but.. they've had a BUNCH of injuries that have brought them back to the pack. It's a tossup now.
But, as a Texas fan, I'd rather play Oklahoma in the CCG than ANY other team.

in the BCS/CFP era (98-17) LOL... so now, it's the "BCS/CFP" era that is significant? You're cherry-picking is starting to get too obvious Hen.

But Hen does have a point - Iowa, Illinois, Purdue, Penn State, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Michigan, Nortwestern and Ohio State have all won Big Ten championships over the past 20 years - doesn't that suggest a more competitive conference? I really don't know about the ACC, SEC, Big 12 or PAC 12 - perhaps they've been similar.

The SEC had FIVE different teams win NC's in that time period. but, they also a couple of losers who've never been close to winning the conference.
