It will probably be someone like Brian Kelly, Jim Harbaugh, Saban or Dabo but if I had a vote my top 3 at this point would be....
3. Matt Campbell - Iowa State
2. Dino Babers - Syracuse 1. Bill Clark - UAB

How about the Army coach? Good call - I always root for USMA...I'll rank him at 3a! UAB didn't even have a team 2 years ago.

I'll split my vote between Jeff Monken ( Army) and Bill Clark ( UAB ). In the case of Monken, can you imagine being that competitive when all your players are mandated to be intelligent, good citizens and with majors other than football ?
BTW, both of these nominees for COY come from championship division schools :
Monken - Milikin College
Clark - Jacksonville State
The NFL knows how cerebral the small college guys are. Just check the coaching staffs. Bill Belichick, for example - Wesleyan College.
Try to find pro level coaches with an SEC lineage.....current HCs, HOFers, or SB winning HCs.......There are Zero.
That leagues is about fast feet only

You know it is Harbaugh’s to lose.

I think if Syracuse wins next week, it has to be Dino Babers
Syracuse and West Virginia having great years! Big East football lives on!

They're likely to maintain that lead too... since, the BE no longer exists.

Ok, thanks for reminding me, Bevo. Sorry . That BE>SEC factoid doesn't seem to fit popular perceptions...then or now...does it ?

Ok, thanks for reminding me, Bevo. That BE>SEC factoid doesn't seem to fit popular perceptions...then or now. It probably doesn't fit perceptions because, NO ONE would be dumb enough to think the Big East, as a whole, was "better than" the SEC. There weren't a great many games played between the two conferences.. only 54... in ALL these years. The record is 25-29, in favor of the Big East. Fully 1/3 of the SEC losses (10 total) come from Kentucky and Vanderbilt. So, I don't know that this stat you keep reminding us of, really means ANYTHING... at all.

In the BCS ERA, Bevo, the SEC was 19-28 vs the Big East....a .404 success rate.
Vandy & Kentucky were 5-9 vs BE competition (.357)
The rest of the SEC was 14-19 vs BE competition (.424 ) not that huge a difference.
In that BCS era :
Bama was 0-1 vs BE getting toyed with by VT, 38-7 Florida was 3-4 Auburn was 2-3 Georgia was 0-2 Miss State was 0-2 S.Carolina was 1-1 Arkansas was 0-2
...so it wasn't all Vandy & Ky, plus many of the SEC wins were vs BE bottom dwellers ( works both ways)
Sure in mythical polls and such the SEC was superior. When they lined up to play real FB games the BE proved clearly superior to the SEC.

And, I repeat; NO ONE is dumb enough to believe the Big East was a better conference. If it was, it would still exist.
