EXCEPT FOR THE SEC...the conference championship games and stupid divisions are a massive failure.
The Conference Championship weekend could easily be a quarterfinal round
The Committee could then seed and place the winners into their bowls, and pick any At-Large teams.
So Ohio State fans....would you rather play the PAC 12 Champ with the winner heading to the final four in the major bowls, or would you rather play 8-3 Northwestern or Purdue or Wisconsin? and then hope you get picked?
THE QUICKEST PATH TO 8 TEAMS IS TO GET RID OF CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES
UCF could have played Notre Dame Clemson could have played Big XII Champ Oklahoma SEC can keep their Champ game, but lose out on shared revenue for the quarterfinals and getting an At-Large team in.
There is your 8 team playoff

I fully agree, they need to go. Expand the playoffs to eight at the same time.

That would be semi-inclusive and halfway home.
