At the risk of severe retribution, just among us.... I am almost at the end of my rope with all the "Yea!! for women".... I feel like I'm assaulted with it constantly. When is it EVER enough?
Just last week, during a company town hall meeting, a slide was presented that said we are starting a "Women's Mentoring" program to help lift up young women into management roles. They plan to have outside speakers come in (Paid) Quarterly, to give motivational talks and have company-paid dinners for 10-15 female employees. Um.... really? Does that mean I CAN'T go? I have no advice for young women in our company?
What about the several younger women I have already BEEN mentoring, 2 of them "officially" in our 'non-gender specific' mentoring program. One of them is sponsoring this new program. The slide they presented contained a bunch of BS statistics, straight from some DNC website, talking about how much better companies do with female leadership. Right...
When I joined this company 18 years ago, there were virtually ZERO female managers or salespeople. Today? A THIRD of our managers and salespeople are females. The pool that we hire from (Chemistry and Chemical Engineer graduates) are now > 60% female. So, I'm quite sure our %'s will increase. Why do we need additional measures to accelerated their progress? They seem to be doing quite well.
In case you hadn't noticed, March is "Women's History Month". Today, all over the world, is "Women's Day". I guess all the other days are "Men's Days"?
Just makes me want to go home and shoot zombies on my TV.
