I was fearing this, yesterday... after the golden buildup... and then, the rain.
I watched ALL of the racing today... left work early to see the end of my favorite race. For 2/3'rds of the race, it was mostly clean.
In Stage 3, it started to get rough. I was hoping they'd make it safely...
But, I always had a BAD feeling about the end.
I'm praying for Ryan Newman tonight, but.. I don't see how any human survives that crash.

The look on Jeff Gordon's face said everything. You knew it was bad.

I heard late last night that he was in stable condition.
That would be nothing short of a miracle.

I, too, feared the worst. Ryan is one of the few pro racing engineers with a degree from Purdue. Amazing that there have been no NASCAR CUP fatalities since Earnhardt. Those final balls out racing laps are exciting to watch but creepy scary too. Serious but stable is great news for that guy.
Congrats to Virginia boy, Denny Hamlin, for back to back 500 wins. Denny obviously didn't know about Ryan when he was doing those celebratory donuts.

I turned on the final 8 laps and OT so I saw the crash live. (I got pissed at the Musketeers and turned them off!) I have to admit I was expecting the worst case scenario - somebody upstairs was looking over that guy last night - got T boned at 200 mph, flipped over, the car was on fire with fuel pouring out all over the place; just a miracle to live through that crash.
And low and behold, when I turned back to the Muskies game, they ended up winning despite making 22 turnovers!

Ryan Newman 'walked' out of the hospital yesterday. Amazing testament to how safe those race cars really are.....probably safer at 200 mph than our family vehicles are at 40 mph
