Wouldn't you know the Bengals picked 2 of the combatants from that game and now Joe Burrow (LSU) will be throwing to Tee Higgins (Clemson). I'm afraid Lawrence didn't get the pass off to Higgins in the play above! (or maybe he ducked his head and a bogus targeting call was made on #18).

Burrow was just outstanding.
Venables agreed to be aggressive knowing if we didn’t sack Burrow or turnover LSU, we’d get beat because you can’t hold up in man-to-man on the sidelines without help.
Aggressive defense is fine but Burrow torched it. Rather than making Burrow be surgical, Venables gave him the candy with 1-on-1 down the sidelines.
I really wanted Clemson to get up 24-7, maybe would have produced a different outcome.
There were bad calls in this game, like every other game. The PI on Higgins inside the 5, the blind-side block, Helaire stepping out of bounds was an eggregious no-call, but none of those cost Clemson the game. LSU was just better. Burrow shined, Lawrence sputtered.
The bitter makes the sweet even sweeter.

I agree - both teams have to overcome bad calls in every game - the one's toward the end of a game just stick out more. The second I saw the replay of Wade's (which I believe was in the first half) hit on Lawrence I knew he was out of the game. It was helmet to helmet and that's how the rule is interpreted. I do think there should be a Targeting 1 and Targeting 2 rule - with one giving the player a warning and 2 leading to disqualification - still penalize them 15 yards. Some targeting penalties occurred due to the way players react during the course of a play, others occur because the player leads with his head with the intent to drill the opponent. There is a difference.
