What I like best about this board is the civil "discussions" we have. No name calling or threats. Just great discussions. While we may disagree on subjects, we have a civil debate on it, supporting our positions and trying to disprove the opposite ones. This is how it is suppose to be.
OK you IDIOTS, let see what nonsense you come up with. LOL

We try.. I do think most people here WANT to keep it civil. Sports has always been a great way of bridging disparate groups. That's one of the reasons I'm so disappointed to see so many political things creeping into sports. It's like, there's nowhere to escape it.
That said... Hen is still wrong about the value of CFP Championships! :-)

I often wonder how Baylor, a private Baptist school in BFE Texas, can win a National Championship. What are all the other schools doing wrong?
At least they tore those west coast soy boys a new one

Did you like it better when Appy was in the FCS where they could play for a natty or do you like it better in the G5. Also would you like to see the G5 separated from the P5 and have their own playoff?

I liked being the SoCon better. Closer rivals, more fun rivals. And did like playing for an NCAA title. But have enjoyed FBS. Had fun at the bowl games. Attended 4 of the 6. But against a G5 national championship. Still splinters, and the talking heads will always say, "Not the real National Champions"

If the power brokers did the right thing, Appy could have the best of both.

the talking heads will always say, "Not the real National Champions" Do they say that about the Div II and III Champs? I think, most people accept the idea of "Champions" from similar competitive divisions. We have it at the High School level and, everyone loves it.

Bevo,
Not in as many word, but if I complain about App St not getting in the playoff with an undefeated season, I get the same responses, Didn't play anybody, weak conference, if in the (Pick a P5) they had all these losses. Same if I said the same about N. Dak. St., which is dominating FCS. And NCAA Div are based on scholarships (money), not the size of the school, like high schools are.

Hen does have a point to an extent. At the moment you have Oklahoma, Ohio State, Clemson, and Alabama claiming 3 or the 4 spots every year with the exception of the first year where they were limited to just 2. Based on how things have played out you have 4 teams playing for 3 spots. 62 teams playing for 1 spot. The other 60 plus teams are playing for 0 spots.
The problem that I see is that the most compelling statistic used is the so call 'EYE TEST'. Lets just take all the stats and records and throw them out the window and pick the teams that look the best. Problem with this approach is that some leagues are way over valued and some are way under valued. One year we had 3 SEC teams in the top 4 and 2 were from the state of Mississippi??? Then when teams put a can of whip ass on these overrated teams they get a way overrated win which propels them in the eye test ranking.
Ohio State has benefited from this but has also been on the other side because based on the Bama and Oklahoma eye tests in a few years. The system we have in place is a complete joke but college football is my passion (until I am eventually forced to boycott it) but unfortunately it the hand that this sport has been dealt. If I were the dictator of the sport it would be 10 conference champs and 6 at large based on purely a computer ranking.

So far, I have seen no case where the team that was MOST deserving was left out. I really haven't seen any that weren't defendable, at least at some level. But, only for the 4th position. There are a lot of potential positives about having a larger field. That's why I consistently say, I'd like to see 8. I don't think ANY of the Champions thus far have been underserving, or own a trophy that's less valuable than those won by the Div 2 or 3 schools.

That would give you (for 2020): #1 Alabama #2 Ohio State #3 Clemson #4 Notre Dame
plus #6 Oklahoma - Big XII Champs #8 Cincinnati - American Champs #12 Coastal Carolina - Sun Belt Champs
Then play it off, with #1 getting a bye. First round at college stadiums
#12 Coastal Carolina @ #2 Ohio State at the Horseshoe #8 Cincinnati @ #3 Clemson in Death Valley #6 Oklahoma @ #4 Notre Dame in South Bend
