Win and your IN: SEC Alabama, UGA
B10 ttun St B12 OU
Three of the 4 sports currently controlled by SEC, B12, B10.
Win out and you are likely tOSU - opened the door with a less than impressive win over PSU. Lots of high value games left on the schedule UGA going to be hard to keep them out if the only loss is to Bama in SEC CCG Cinti ND is only bright spot on the resume. SMU and Houston may not be enough Oregon The still have the head to head against the Buckeyes. The P12 is down and it will hurt them Wake Forest OOC Schedule may be a show stopper. Still have the brunt of schedule ahead of them
Needing lots of help ttun - Harbaughs teams just can't finish. Need a lot of help and some how win out Notre Dame - Losing to UC keeps them on the outside with no big opportunities on the horizon. Oklahoma St - Still have Oklahoma maybe twice Baylor - Still have Oklahoma maybe twice
Hanging on by a thread UTSA - based on the committee this thread is very thin
Exiting the party Kentucky Ole Miss San Diego St
SMU

Many teams have their hardest games in front of them, while Notre Dame and Oregon are on cruise control....we shall see

What a difference 2 weeks make. Penn State goes to #3 Iowa ranked #4 - ahead of everyone but Iowa, Oklahoma and Georgia. They jump out to a quick lead but then their senior, 3 year starting QB gets hurt and the back-up is horrible. They lose after leading most of the game. Iowa moves to #2 but proves they were highly overrated by losing to Purdue the following week. Penn state probably wins at Iowa if the QB doesn't get hurt and moves to #2. Then, with the back-up QB and the starter not 100%, they lose in 9 overtimes to Illinois...no doubt a bad loss but again, the QB situation is the reason why. Keep in mind their defense continues to be ranked in the top 10 and playing very well.
Move to Saturday night - the QB in his words, is 100%. After the fact he probably said he wasn't, Penn State fans probably say he wasn't, but he did play the entire game, put up some decent numbers, absorbed some hits and kept on playing. Ohio State moves the ball into Penn State territory all night long but continually has to settle for FG's. Ohio State commits 10 offensive penalties and 2 personal fouls with one being targeting on one of their LB's. They get a false start on 4th and goal with about 18 inches to the the goal. The QB misses a wide open receiver from about 18 yards out that would have been a walk in TD. They settle for FG's in both instances. Score TD's and the score is 41-24. They amass close to 500 yards against a top ten defense. Two weeks earlier this would have been a signature win - Saturday night Ohio State struggled to beat lowly Penn State.
Bottom line - every week is different. Anything can happen. MSU played their game of the year but next week they have to go to Purdue and the Boilers have already beaten Iowa at Iowa. The trio of MSU, OSU and Michigan all have to play each other. The Michigan schools have to play Penn State - there's a ton of football left to play. Never has the top 4 teams in the first playoff rankings all made it to the playoffs. MSU will be in that top 4 tomorrow - can they handle the prosperity and adulation - Iowa sure couldn't. I don't know haw things are going to turn out but it should be an interesting month of November - just keep winning.

I like how LSU and FSU are has beens...somehow lumped in with Nebraska?
Guys, it's been less than 10 years since FSU won a title...they made the playoffs in 2014, won the Orange Bowl in 2016. Norvell has already shown massive improvement over this year, and I think we will be seeing FSU start to bounce back.
LSU literally just won the Natty 2 years ago...
At this rate, you might as well put Clemson on that list. Hopefully Saban doesn't lose again either...
There are very proud programs like Tennessee, Penn St, Michigan, and Texas that haven't even sniffed a playoff game.
Notre Dame last title 1987 Georgia -->1980 Oklahoma --> 2000 Texas --> 2005 Florida --> 2008
This twitter poster seems kind of clueless

Keep in mind that this Penn St team beat a not very good Auburn team where some were saying that they may finish at the bottom of the SEC West at the time. They got no credit for that even though this same Auburn team is tied for first in the in the division and controls their destiny in teams of winning the SEC. If Clifford stays healthy I can see PSU running the table for the remainder of their schedule.

I see ESPN starting up the CFP SEC campaign trail again.
Of the 13 so called experts that put forward their CFP top 4 picks 11 had Alabama. All other one loss teams had 0 and a number of the smarties at ESPN had UGA 1 and Bama 2.
So what has Bama done so far to impress us. Was it that hard fought win vs 4 - 4 UF that could have gone either way. Was it a dominating win against Ole Miss who has thus far beaten only one time with a winning record Arky (5-3) and which is currently in last place in the SEC West. Was it that almost miraculous win in the insane nearly impossible environment against the 12th man. Even though Texas AM lost their 2 previous games at home and yet to beat a team over .500. This is clearly a great loss.
Hero not trying to rag on Bama as I do think they are a good team but just looking at what I feel is a continual bias ESPN has for the SEC
Looking at tOSU vs Bama Losses Ohio State to 7 - 1 Oregon Bama to 6 - 2 Texas AM
Wins against teams with winning records (FCS teams don't count) Ohio State vs 6 - 2 Minnesota Ohio State vs 5 - 3 Penn St Ohio State vs 5 - 3 Maryland
Bama vs 6 - 2 Ole Miss Bama vs 5 - 3 Miss St
Also Bama had a 2 point win vs a 4 - 4 team.
Apparently it must be the eye test cause the what you did on paper does not apply. Then again when it comes to comparing Oregon to tOSU the eye test means nothing and only head to head matters

So what has Bama done so far to impress us. They won it all last year, 3 of the 7 playoff years and I believe 6 championships in the Saban era. Not that previous years should matter but they do....

JMO, but Alabama at #3 is absurd considering their loss to Texas A&M. How is Oklahoma not ahead of Alabama? OU is undefeated. Do wins and losses still matter?
How is Alabama ahead of Ohio State? The Buckeyes look better to me, and have a higher ranked loss
That said, Alabama has the opportunities to absolutely prove me wrong. They can play their way into the playoff. We won't know anymore about Alabama till their last 3 games. Wins over Tennessee and Miss St, along with a junk OOC against Mercer, Southern Miss, and New Mexico State, do not impress

Wouldn't it be great if in his pre-game speech to the team, Nick Saban would say something like...."C'mon guys, let's go out there and prove ajbuckeye and Evil Vodka wrong!!!"

Don’t be surprised when Cincinnati is ranked 7th (or worse) in initial Playoff rankings tomorrow night.

Indiana was supposed to be a solid win for Cincinnati but the Hoosiers are winless - and may very well stay winless - in the B1G. Their 2 wins are against Western Kentucky and Idaho. They still have Michigan, Rutgers, Minnesota and Purdue. They gave Michigan State a pretty game and we all know the Spartans (along with Michigan) have clearly separated themselves from Ohio State and Penn State - so who knows, maybe UC will pick up some style points for beating an Indiana team that only lost to a clearly superior MSU team by 5.

I figure the committee will place them outside now, rather than endure the onslaught of questions and nasty tweets and resultant headaches if they place then at 4 now and then remove them to add Bama or OSU.
