I recently saw a list on Facebook about the 50 places you must visit in America before you die. I've been to 46 of the 50 states but must admit that several of them I've only driven through or made airplane connections in. The 4 states I haven't been to are Hawaii, Oregon and the Dakotas. Consequently, I think I've only seen about half of the 50 places listed. So, I decided I'd put together my list of places you must visit based on places I've been...in no particular order, by state, here is my list...feel free to suggest your own, I may have missed some. I'll say I'm attracted to sports, food, natural beauty and engineering marvels so those topics provide most of the flavor of my list...

Alabama - only drove through
Alaska - Seward, Kenai Fjords, Bear Track Lodge in Gustavus, Kennicott Mines, Golden Saloon in McCarthy, Wrangell National Park
Arizona - Sedona, Sun Devil Stadium
Arkansas - only flew into Little Rock
California - Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, AT&T Park, Sonoma/Napa Valley, Lake Tahoe, the Rose Bowl
Colorado - Aspen, Vail
Connecticut - Westport, the Yale Bowl
Delaware - only drove through
Florida - Clearwater Beach, TPC Sawgrass, Captiva Island, St. Augustine, Sea World
Georgia - Reynolds Plantation, Stone Mountain, Sanford Stadium - University of Georgia
Hawaii - never visited
Idaho - Monida Pass
Illinois - Michigan Avenue (Chicago), Wrigley Field, Shedd Aquarium
Indiana - University of Notre Dame, Indianapolis for a major sporting event
Iowa - only drove through
Kansas - the signs that say 'Welcome to Colorado' and 'Welcome to Missouri'
Kentucky - Churchill Downs, the Bourbon Trail, Valhalla Country Club
Louisiana - Bourbon Street, Cafe Du Monde
Maine - Only flew into Portland
Maryland - Inner Harbor, Annapolis
Massachusetts - Cape Cod, Freedom Walk, Fenway Park, Boston Common, Cheers
Michigan - Lake Leland, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Saugatuck
Minnesota - the Mayo Clinic - Rochester
Mississippi - only drove through
Missouri - Delmar Loop, Gateway Arch, Fox Theater
Montana - Yesterday's Cafe
Nebraska - only drove through
Nevada - Las Vegas Strip, Caesars Palace Sports Book, Hoover Dam
New Hampshire - drove from Manchester to Boston
New Jersey - only drove through
New Mexico - Carlsbad Caverns, White Sands Missle Range
New York - Times Square & NYC, Baseball Hall of Fame, Holiday Valley Ski Resort
North Carolina - Omni Grove Park Inn, Asheville, Balsam Mountain Resort
North Dakota - never visited

The Alamo, NASA (In Houston), Lake Austin/Travis, Toledo Bend, South Padre Island, Big Bend National Park.

In Kentucky:

Mammoth Cave, Rupp Arena, Woodford Reserve Distillery, Keeneland and Churchill.

Can't believe I left the Alamo off - bad omission on my part. Woodford Reserve was part of our Bourbon Trail weekend along with Makers, Four Roses, Wild Turkey and Jim Beam. Been to Rupp but had lousy seats - did see a helluva game as my top two teams played each other in NCAA play - Ohio State nipped Xavier in OT.

I haven't made it to Mackinaw Island but hope to some day. I'd also like to visit the Civil War sites like Antietam and Gettysburg. I'm watching the Civil War documentary right now at Bevo's suggestion.

Some states have more stuff than others....

There's a lot of places in Colorado to check out

Anyone doing a trip to New Orleans is extremely close to hitting some decent casinos in Biloxi or Lake Charles.

Florida also has some excellent beaches along the "Emerald Coast" area...

There's tons of places in Texas as well, and we've got some of the best food around. San Antonio, Austin, and the Hill Country in general are great destinations. There's also the Valley which is really growing and it's close to South Padre

Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico is a must see, and Santa Fe is really nice.

If you are in Houston, there's Kemah, Moody Gardens, the Galleria area, Rice Village...and most of all, one of the biggest and most massive and bloated highway systems imaginable
