When you really keep poking and prodding the 4 team playoff to try and get a 12-1 Alabama in...I think you find the actual way that could happen is jumping Alabama over Oregon
This would actually be the least controversial and the least impactful for 2 reasons:
(1) The PAC 12 will not feel jilted, because the PAC 12 is pretty much dead next year. Oregon will be headed to the Big 10, where they know they'll be in if they win the conference.
(2) The 12 team playoff will eliminate all of this nonsense next year
If the committee wants to adequately compare 2 teams, Alabama vs. Oregon becomes resume-based and SOS-based. Alabama wins this argument.
This would cause less friction than (A) leaving out an undefeated conference champ (FSU), or (B) moving Alabama ahead of a team they lost to (Texas)
Would it be a screw job? Absolutely. But its one they can neatly sweep under the rug nicely. Putting Alabama in over undefeated FSU or conference champ Texas would create a precedent that the committee would not want to live with.
The Oregon screw job would not be unlike the TCU screw job in 2014.
-----
So just to play this out a little further.
Oregon wins tonight
Alabama beats Georgia Texas wins FSU wins Michigan wins
#1 Michigan goes to #1 #2 --> Texas jumps FSU, Oregon, and Ohio State (and SEC loser Georgia) #3 --> Alabama jumps FSU, Oregon and Ohio State (and Georgia) #4 FSU stays at #4
#5 Oregon #6 Georgia #7 Ohio State #8 Washington
Oregon stays where they are at #5. Washington drops all the way to #8. Both Texas and Alabama all of the sudden have the better wins than Oregon.
If I had to bet money on who would get left out, this scenario satisfies A LOT more people than any other result.

The only counterpoint / observation I would make is that the cte. has seemingly position a P12 team to make, regardless of who wins, this being the last year for the P12.

The only argument for Oregon is that they have looked pretty good all year, although they do only have an 8 point win over Texas Tech, while Texas blew out Texas Tech The Ducks resume doesn't match up with Texas or Alabama. Keeping Oregon out is the path of least resistance for the committee IMO. The alternative is keeping out an undefeated P5 champ, or ignoring a Head2Head result....assuming there are no upsets besides Georgia

Oregon has 2 quality losses, Washington has none.
And they pass the eye test.
Oregon should be #4.

Don’t give them any ideas Hoping Alabama and FSU win and then watch the sideshow that is the college football selection committee tap dance around why they picked Alabama over Texas.

I'd prefer to see UM lose, and then they can explain why B1G got left out. In that scenario the BIG would deserve to be left out because they let Iowa win the championship. Don’t think that will happen but I’ll smile if it does.

I hate ttun and would love to see those cheaters lose. That being said and considering the are 20+ point favorite then go Noles. Nothing would be more fitting to me than to see the SEC on the outside. Pretty sure the late night ESPN pundits will be hammering home why both UGA and Bama should both be in. At the end of the day if both FSU and ttun win both UGA and BAMA should be demoted to NY6 purgatory as 25% of players will chose to sit out in a completely useless exhibition game.
