Astute CF fans have known, for a long time, that TV runs big time CF , especially post season big time CF. The governing body of the sport should run the major CF post season as is with all other team sports on planet Earth. Until that happens its all phony baloney.

Excellent analysis by Wetzel.... he's as good as any at understanding how this screwy system works.. (Or doesn't) Sadly, he doesn't volunteer any solutions? Unbalanced schedules in split Division is CRAP! There MUST be a better way.

Get rid of divisions and take top two teams and there is much less of a chance of a top four team missing out on its CCG.

10 team max conference, with full round robin. Still leaves 3 OOC games under the current schedule.

Get rid of divisions and take top two teams and there is much less of a chance of a top four team missing out on its CCG. This works particularly well for 9-team conferences. Each team plays each of the other 8, with 3 OOC games. It would also work well for 8-team conferences with 4 OOC games per team. This would result in a 12-game season for bowl teams, and a maximum 15-game season for the final 2 teams in a 16-team playoff.

In the Big 10 a case can be made for four teams to play for the championship. So how do we simply "take the top two teams"?
Are you guys proposing we vote the teams into the CCG?
How do you resolve this year?

As a next step, I would eliminate CCG's and replace them with playoff quarterfinals played on campus in an eight-team playoff. Autobids to the P5 regular season conference champs + 3 at large bids.

How do you resolve this year? Here's how, Hero : The 128 FBS presidents contact and request the NCAA championships committee to design and administer an all inclusive, fair, equal opportunity, competition based national football championship for the FBS subdivision...and then get out of the way, no matter what big TV wants. Then and only then will factual standings trump opinionated rankings.......like they do in all the other team sports championships at every level around the world. Playing will replace voting. It would be glorious !

The correct number of playoff teams this year is not eight, it's ONE !
There is NO NEED for a playoff. ONE team has clearly excelled far beyond all others, and deserves to be named National Champions if/when they take care of business in the SEC CCG.
NO OTHER team... NONE... has even the slightest argument for being deserving of a chance to go against them. Three teams will get a chance they don't deserve. One might even win. Such things can happen when playing a game of chance.
Any team left out certainly has no claim to have been harmed.

A final four comprised of quarterfinal winners is 1000% more legitimate than a final four determined by a beauty contest election. Same principle for the final eight. The 10+6 plan is still the most fair way to determine a champion, IMO.
