This week, Appalachian State is ranked 25th in the AP poll. First time in school history that the Mountaineers have been ranked. (They played Div. 1 football in the Southern Conference in the 70's and 80's before the Div. 1 split.)
Big game Thursday at Ga. Southern.
GO APPS!

Go APPS..
Did you ever see my question, stumpy, ?....do you miss playing for NCAA national championships or are you fine with playing for insignificant PSEGs ?
In other NCAA FB championship news - the Hens are quietly 5-2 and , who knows ? ...maybe within a sniff of a post season opportunity.

I miss being in the SoCon with our traditional CLOSE rivals. And miss the opportunity to play for a real national title. But like being in FBS too. Like going to bowls, but not the idea of never being able to play for a national title. Like the SunBelt but would prefer a conference that is not as spread out.

GA Southern quietly at 6-1.
Only loss is to Clemson.

Short week to get ready for the option. But Satterfield said they did practice against it earlier.

Short week to get ready for the option. But Satterfield said they did practice against it earlier. Clemson faced 3 triple option teams in its first 5 games.
Amazingly, they still are near the top in rushing defense.

Sorry Stumpy... looks like you jinxed yourself.
I’m pretty sure AP State will make it back. Good program there.

Our highly regarded DC (Foster) laid an egg in preparing for that style offense. What an embarrassment. I'm sorry GG had to see that live. Paul Johnson has dumped on Foster for 3 consecutive years now. VT does, however, have the youngest two deep defensive roster in the ACC.

Foster needs to watch tape of venables and Clemson defending GT Have shut them down for several years now

True and Clemson's NFL quality front four would be helpful too.

True and Clemson's NFL quality front four would be helpful too. Playing a triple option team is tough because you must play assignment football, and these kids are not taught that much anymore - they are taught to follow and run to the ball.
1. Take away the dive in the A gap 2. play assignment football 3. hit the qb every play

..and raw speed can often overcome slightly missed defensive reads and assignments vs such an offense. Speed + good coaching wins, defensively.

Yep, Jimmy Johnson proved that at Miami.

Very true... especially, #3 That is the Achilles heal of the triple option
