I expect Texas and OU will go to the SEC. If A&M finds three other teams to block it, they will pivot and go to the Big Ten.
For football, 16 teams is the best setup mathematically. Four four-team divisions. You play the other three teams in your division and two each from the other three divisions for a nine-game schedule. You play every team at least twice every four years. Sets up for a nice four-team conference playoff.
Texas & OU fit nicely with either conference.
Texas-OU-A&M-LSU Miss-MSU-Mizzou-Ark Bama-Auburn-Tenn-UK UF-UGA-SC-Vandy
Texas-OU-Iowa-Neb Minn-Wisc-NW-Ill Mich-MSU-Ind-Pur tOSU-PSU-Rutgers-UMD
National championship. 12 teams. Top six conference champions plus top six remaining teams. Top four champs get a first round bye. The other two conference champs and the top two at-large host first round on campus with the two conference champs hosting the lowest seeded at-large teams. Second round in Rose, Sugar, Orange, and Fiesta. Rose gets Big Ten and Pac 12 champs. Sugar gets SEC champ. Orange gets ACC champ. In most years those champs will have first round byes. Fiesta gets top remaining team. Opponents are placed by seeding - top seed gets lowest seed, etc.

Hearing talk that if Texas & OU don't head to the SEC, a compromise "might" be Oklahoma and Oklahoma State to the SEC with Texas and Kansas heading to the Big Ten.

I have always said this, and I think it still applies. Texas, will NOT go to the B1G Ten. ever.

I keep reading where people think the TX legislature will stop the move. Really? First, Austin has more pull with the politicians than College Station. Second, why would the politicians not want to put Texas and Texas A&M back together? Finally, the so-called politicians that are playing political theatre in DC would have to return. And when they return, college football would not be the priority. Passing the vote integrity bill would come first. And, they are in special session. They couldn't do anything unless the governor called another special session. BTW, the governor is a Texas Alum.

Hearing Big Ten is in very quiet back channel negotiations with several ACC schools. If thy can't get past the GoR in the ACC, the fall back plan is to broker a deal where Kansas and Missouri come to the Big Ten and the SEC also adds Oklahoma State.

it's such a bad deal though...they need to just dissolve it

So much talk - so many rumors. It is hard to sort out what is actually taking place. Of course, we know every conference and every team is looking for what is best for themselves. From what I have been able to piece together -- 1) Kansas is actively courting the Big Ten. 2) The Pac 12 is "thinking" about a package of teams that "could" include Kansas, Iowa State, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State. 3) Notre Dame "might" be forced into full ACC membership (I think the lack of the ability of ever getting a first round bye in a 12 team playoff has more to do with this than the realignment rumors). 4) The ACC is working overtime to prevent any departures -- even one would open the floodgates. 5) The ACC is trying to figure out if they want to go to 15 or 16 and at who would be the 16th team (my take: Vanderbilt would be the obvious choice, WVU the second choice). 6) The Big 12 is toast.

7) Texas A&M is steaming mad. It appears the other 13 SEC schools have been working on the Texas/OU additions for six months and purposely left A&M out of the discussions and kept it secret from them. I don't expect A&M would leave the SEC, but if they did, the Big Ten would move quickly to offer a landing spot (probably taking Kansas with them). That would probably male a spot in the SEC for Oklahoma State.

I would love to see the Aggies depart. They really are sore losers.
Texas will be very happy to NEVER play them again.
They are traitors

A&M meeting is over. Still angry, but staying put in the SEC.

Current most likely situation if we go to four 16-team conferences:
SEC adds Texas and OU Big Ten adds Kansas and ISU Pac 12 adds Oklahoma State and Texas Tech, possibly with TCU and either Baylor or Houston ACC adds Notre Dame and UConn
WVU, KSU, and Baylor seem like the odd men out.
A spilt from the NCAA for football seems more likely now.
A possible 12 team playoff might include the four conference champs, the next highest rated team from each of the four conferences, and then the next four best teams. Byes for the conference champs with the lower eight seeded and playoff games on campus sites.
