Once they get their teeth into something, they NEVER let go. Especially when, they learn that it MATTERS to the other side.

I find the crazy associated with this pretty amazing. They never seem to realize they are eating themselves.

I find the crazy associated with this pretty amazing. They never seem to realize they are eating themselves. The woke people are costing universities millions of dollars. Speaking from my experience (and I work in university development/fundraising) the people who can make huge donations are for the most part very conservative and they are tired of the woke movement. We literally lost millions of dollars in donations because our basketball team wore BLM on their uniforms. We're a small school but we just completed a campaign where we raised $257 million (the goal was $250 million). It could have been somewhat higher without all the woke noise. I can't imagine what it must be like at a place like Texas.

ditto for football players
I just don't understand the mentality....It is psychologically stunted, and these complaints are from whiny children

I can't imagine what it must be like at a place like Texas. My belief (based on personal experience) is: Most people who donate money regularly to ANY cause, do it because.. they truly enjoy doing so. It make them feel good to be using their own resources, however meager or great, to help a worthy cause; A cause that they identify with and have a personal interest in benefitting. But, NO ONE likes to let loose of money. It doesn't take MUCH of a reason for donors to become disinterested in any given cause. As much as I LOVE the University of Texas, I will disown them FOREVER... sell my ring.. and, move on if they capitulate on "The Eyes of Texas". That is how much it means to me. Beyond being a Longhorn football fan for my entire life, I love "THE University" (sorry, OSU fans) because, it offered me the opportunity to access the knowledge that has enabled my entire career. Everything I have, everything I am has grown from my experience there, in Austin... for 3 years and 6 months. I have donated back, generously. Even after I moved far away. I am watching. So far, I've been happy to see the support for our school song. If they ditch it, my retirement income plan will get a large boost.

Agree.....it's going way too far(Eyes Of Texas). I do agree, however, that we shouldn't be honoring the Confederacy in any matter......although I love playing 'Dixie' on my fiddle.

Nah, the Southern Aristocracy was able to recruit masses of poor, gullible, zero educated Southern boys into an Army to wage war against the United States of America under the guise and miss-information of 'Fighting for your rights, and protecting your wives, sweethearts and homes" ...it says that right on the recruiting posters. It took a while but the ones with some small semblance of intelligence finally realized they were suffering and dying only for the Southern Aristocracy's 'right' to WEALTH by a system of owning other people....thus the huge desertion rates as the war dragged on. The Civil War, the greatest tragedy in American History, was basically enabled by massive Southern ignorance...the perfect manifestation of 'Rich Man's War - Poor man's Fight"
Anyway, honoring military enemies of the US with statues and titles makes little sense to me.

That means, 80% didn't. You're right. They THOUGHT they were fighting for their State. For the right of their State to control the laws within their borders. And, for their wives, and family. They fought bravely. They fought hard. I see no shame in remembering, and honoring their sacrifice. I think, BOTH SIDES should be reminded just how awful it was, for ALL of us. Is there anyone, anywhere, who doesn't believe the South would have eventually abandoned slavery? Like, the rest of the world eventually did? Without having to sacrifice the lives of so many of their youth? That was a war that NEVER should have happened.

To get to 20%, I bet someone is counting WIVES as slaves! Most of what I think are the most credible sources have it somewhere between 5 and 8%. I think it depends on whether your looking at the ACTUAL owners, or people "in a slave owning family".

People have strong political biases to inflate, or deflate the number. I think it's pretty safe to say, MOST people couldn't afford the "luxury" of owning a slave. They could barely take care of themselves!
