You seriously want to question the talent level at Notre Dame during Rockne's era? The trademark words of John McEnroe come to mind... Indeed.

Anybody have the recruiting rankings for Rockne's teams......or the # of NFL players produced ? We can only speculate.

Rockne had at least two players who are in the NFL HOF. I count ~ 15 in the Notre Dame HOF? They could get just about any player they wanted.

That's plausible for speculation but not proof

Trressel coached for 10 years and with an .828 winning percentage should be in the top 10.

All I can guess, aj, is that his 2010 season with an 0-13 record knock his WP significantly down. OSU decided to vacate all wins that season following an NCAA improper benefits investigation which, of course, also led to his abrupt departure.

OSU decided to vacate all wins that season following an NCAA improper benefits investigation which, of course, also led to his abrupt departure. The wins were vacated - I don't think they were reflected as losses on their record or Tressel's - I could be wrong. It does eliminate 12 wins from his record but I don't think they're listed as losses. - By that I mena they didn't take the 12 wins and turn them into losses, they just vacated the wins. Personally, I count the wins - I attended many of the games, saw the wins and doubt tattoos had anything to do with the players' performances. When they refund the money I paid to see those wins I might be inclined to subtract the wins from their record. But for now, I haven't seen a cent so in my mind Ohio State went 12-1 in 2010.

If counting the 2010 season as 12-1 Tressel's career record is 341-79-2 ( .810) which should = 12th most difficult to beat on that list. The only thing I can think of is that he coached the majority of his career at a lower level and that list is for primarily 'major' level. I don't know. It's a mystery. I'm going to check the all division winning % list and see if he shows up.

More Tressel research : If you take away 12 wins ( like OSU did) Jim's career record is still 329-79-2 (.804) which should be 37th best (still better than Sabans) yet he doesn't show up on this 'all coaches' list either. I have no idea why not.

Oh Oh....look at the footnote at the end of this list Re: Tressel. It says he finished at.742 ...which conflicts with his total career record at Wikipedia if you search 'Jim Tressel coaching record' ?
