Do you think that if Jordan Travis HAD NOT gotten hurt, FSU would have gotten in?
------
I don't
If you take a look at the ESPN PR campaign that started the last two weeks, it was aimed specifically at FSU and Texas.
Basically, ESPN wanted the SEC Champ in and wanted to use any argument that would gain traction. The FSU injury was the one that stuck the most.
ESPN had Kirk Herbstreit out there saying "four best teams, four best teams"
They had Heather Dinich interviewing the committee to reiterate "four best teams"
They weren't going to leave the SEC Champion out, period.

It is Auburn's fault for only rushing two. Had that not happened, Bama would be sitting on two losses and UGA would still not be conference champ.

ESPN completely milked the injury to Travis. I seriously think the committee planned to put the SEC in regardless Many ESPN pundits still had Georgia as one of the "best four teams"

I'm surprised Georgia didn't make it too.

Evil, you are correct. ESPN wanted there conference to be represented. An SEC team was going into the playoff. The committee got there walking orders and put in Alabama. And if Bama had lost to Auburn, they would have used the "best team" position to put in Georgia. (They've been the best team all year)

I'm with Evil and Stumpy. ESPN , at all costs, would never omit the SEC champion from its event under any circumstance......especially with a juicy ratings match-up of Harbaugh vs Saban available. This is business as much as sport.
Re: Mr. Howell's comment about Auburn rushing only two. Imo, had the other 9 defensive players been instructed to align in more of zone defense in the end zone this unfortunate miracle may have been averted.

For the life of me, I have no idea why all the ESPN people refer to her as a "football God". She simply toes the party line. Nut to answer your question, no, I don't think FSU would have been excluded if Travis had not been injured. I don't agree that FSU would have been left out had Travis not been injured, just my 0.02

I don't want to hear anything about "best" I have not heard Ohio State come up at all -- they are clearly the second "best" team. One close loss on the road to the #1 team. It was all about the SEC and nothing to do with either "best" or "deserving."

Gary Danielson, probably: “Well, when you look at the WAY Alabama lost those 12 games, I think, if you’re the committee, you have to consider Alabama one of the top 4 teams in the country.”

I’m not questioning who should or shouldn’t be in but think about this….
Florida State was #4 going into championship week. Texas was #7. Florida State beat the #14 team with their 3rd string qb while Texas beat the #18 team. What happens? Texas jumps to #3 while FSU drops to #5. Texas jumped 4 spots beating a lower ranked team than FSU beat. How does this happen?
Well, the committee HAD to get Alabama in and couldn’t do it without Texas due to their head to head game in September. It’s that simple. As Hero said, I’m surprised Georgia didn’t get a bid but that couldn’t happen due to the Bama loss to Texas - if Bama had to be in, so did Texas.
I’ll add this - look at the non-conference games played by FSU and Michigan - not even close. Each team had a different set of criteria.

Texas should have been ranked higher last week. It didn’t bother me too much. I knew we’d jump over OSU and the losers of the Wash-Oregon and UGA-Bama games, if we won convincingly. I always believed we’d get in, unless all four undefeated teams won.
To answer the question: I do NOT believe FSU would have been excluded if their star QB had not been hurt. They would have continued crushing people, the way they were, and they would 100% be IN the CFP.’
In fact, I think they’d have been included if they had scored a couple more TD’s in the past 2 games. There offense was anemic. That’s BAD TV.
It sucks. There’s no way around it. But honestly, do ANY of you think FSU would be favored by bettors in Vegas over ANY of the teams that were selected ? I don’t. They’d be at least 5-6 point underdogs.
I hate that FSU couldn’t impress enough to get selected. Texas had Bama checkmated. YOU let them in, and now they’ll probably win the whole thing. Thanks.

I will say the PR campaign put on by ESPN the last 2 weeks was extremely noticeable. The framed the narrative for the screw job. Funny how FSU wasn't compared to Washington or Michigan. I mean, do we all think that Washington is better than Georgia?
Its all moot now though, because next year we're going to 12 teams. I think this also played a factor in the screw job, knowing that this will be swept under the rug for next year.

Can you imagine how bad it feels to be one of the backup QB’s at FSU?
The longer this move sits, the worse it feels.
