According to recent reports, Paterno didn't know anything prior to 1971. But at least he told his AD about it in 2001 so he did all that he was required to do. I wonder if it had been his son or grandson in the shower with Sandusky if Joe would have taken the same course of action.
As for Baylor, I'll be very surprised if Briles is still the coach when the season kicks off in a few months. I think the pressure will mount and he'll eventually resign.

I agree.... It is, after all, a Baptist school..

I guess I should have said by the end of the week - Briles has been fired at Baylor. Based on what I'm hearing, he earned it....

It would be great if this most admirable move by Baylor would send a message throughout NCAA win-at-all-cost big time football....don't recruit anything out there just because it can run 40 yards real fast or bench press a bunch of pounds.

I don't think that's the right message. I think it should be: Don't cover for your star athletes when they've actually done horrible things.

Our suggested messages tie together....' don't bring in dumb trash and don't cover up dumb trashy behavior '.........and also apply some reasonable 'standards' to the academic side of , so called, "college football" as well as the character and citizenship side. Reform is needed.

When I see the NCAA act in a responsible manner I will be impressed. Things have been storage at Baylor for a while.
Baylor was warned by Chris Petersen before they took on the 5* DL. The temptation was too great and the rest is history. As usual, the cover up exceeds the crime.

Auburn may be looking for a coach soon. Briles will be right in their wheel house.

Starr seems to have been kicked upstairs. Will serve as Chancellor and remain in the Law School.

The difference though is, I wouldn't "give up" on all kids who have some trouble in their past. Many of these come from some pretty rotten places. A CHANCE at a sports career is their best ticket out of this circumstance. Some aren't going to make it. But, many will. I'm willing to give them a shot. But, coaches have to know... with these guys, there are extra risks. They're going to need extra attention and some firm guidelines. Making excuses for them, doing their homework for them... isn't going to change their character.
That said, Baylor brought in some guys who'd already had their "Chance"... and blew, big time. Not sure I'd be willing to go where they did.
