This is why it's still basically mythical

The whole Exodus story is full of supernatural 'holes'....passed on by the folk process. After negotiating the Red Sea the Hebrews wandered around the desert of, which is now, Saudi Arabia for a couple decades before settling on the West bank of the Mediterranean sea. For the size of this contingent I've read speculation from 6,000 to 6 million. Forget 6 million ( the entire population of Egypt wasn't even close to that ). There is no archeological evidence that this event occurred or that Moses was a real person. There would be evidence of massive camps, otherwise. Even for 20,000 people wandering around in desert conditions it would take 11,000 gallons of water and 1500 tons of food per day to sustain them. It just wasn't there. If there was any kind of mass migration westward from Egypt this is likely what happened and far more accurate and plausible than the Bible : This mass of people crossed a wide shallow lake called Lake Reed ( sometimes called the Reed sea) at a site where the Suez canal is today. It was a brackish , very swampy body of water and with the combination of very severe winds and fluctuating tides the depth of Reed lake would fluctuate between 2 and 4 feet deep......very wade-able. If a bunch of horse drawn chariots attempted to cross it their weight would probably result in getting stuck in the soft lake bed. When the King James version of the Bible was written 'Reed Sea' was mistakenly called 'Red Sea'. Nobody waved a stick and the Sea parted. Also if the Mt Sinai story really happened the location of the Mountain would surely have been identified by now and would be a Christian shrine and probably one of the greatest tourist attractions on Earth. The Garden of Eden and Noah's boat yard would also be amazing massive tourist attractions if known and verified.

Thanks GG. Good explanation of the trump worshiping snake handling idiots of backwoods Appalachia. Therefore 100% of the Bible is not to be interpreted 100% literally ?... as there are metaphors and symbolism throughout. That was my point about the old testament folk tales. Is that fair ?
I'm still skeptical about 'God so loves the world'....a world he periodically chooses to destroy including its people. With the actual knowledge at hand I blame mother nature for the horrible things that have happened to man, not a spirit up in the sky somewhere.

You ARE offensive, intentionally so. Which also makes you caustic and destructive to any sense of cohesion on this board. Supporting the denial of health care to people because of an ancient fairy tale is offensive. It is evil. I’m just stating the obvious. My words are only offensive if your belief system can’t stand up to criticism. But we already know that to be the case, don’t we?
Hey Aufan, I don't think you are "caustic" and "destructive" to this board. Regarding this discussion of theology ,if some deity spirit in the sky gave you a brain to think with than thinking about things is a good thing...a logical thing.

I've always felt Pat Fitzgerald was a great person and one of the best 'most with the least' football coaches of today. Northwestern has some semblance of 'standards'., so nice going coach Fitzgerald and the Wildcats.

So GG, you're not familiar with the snake handlers of remote sections of Appalachia ? They are generally Pentecostal Holiness types that pick up Rattlesnakes and Copperheads and speak in gibberish 'Tongues' as instructed by God in the Bible. They are generally very poorly educated and have MAGA and Trump signs around their trashed up Trailer yards. It's the thing to do....right from the Bible....Book Of Mark :
"and these signs will accompany those who believe in my name. They will drive out demons. They will speak in tongues. They will pick up snakes with their hands and when they drink deadly poison it will not harm them at all"
C'mon GG get with it and find some poisonous snakes to handle to affirm your faith......NO NO...just kidding !
Also, thanks for assuring me that God loves me. I think I'd prefer that he loved the little children that he decided to drown in Kentucky recently plus 37 other people ( some could have even been snake handlers )...and the ones he decided to kill in the tornados in Western Ky a couple of years ago.....and all the death, suffering, misery destruction and chaos he felt the need to inflict on mankind over time....via diseases, fires, earthquakes, floods, famines etc.etc.
.but his love works in mysterious ways, right ? a " depth of love" as you say.

So GG, approximately 85% of all human beings that have ever inhabited our planet have been, are and will be burning in Hell ? Only 31% identify with Christianity and about half of those identify loosely and don't interpret the Bible 1000% literally like you do. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_religious_groupsAgain, I am not God so how can I judge the heart of others? I cannot. Only God can and He will. Thankfully, God does not leave us in the dark - we have His Holy Word, The Bible, which spells it out for us. Also, it should not be shocking that the number of people who choose to be with Christ for eternity is very very small. Jesus himself said this would be the case in Matthew 7. Read very carefully: Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is narrow and the way is constricted that leads to life, and there are few who find it."
Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.
GG, Can you make any points or arguments based on anything other than Bible quotes ? The Bible is a popular book but it is NOT a historically accurate history book ( back to the old testament mythology) and it certainly is NOT a science book.
Do you handle poisonous snakes to affirm your beliefs and trust in some deity ? : )

GG, all your Jesus commentary is nice but it didn't remotely answer the question about the other religions of the world which have their own 'creators' and 'know it alls'. FACT : only 31.2% of the global population of Earth identify with Christianity and I would guess a significant less % would be hard core literal Bible believing evangelicals regarding all the supernatural folk tales and fairy tales. The question was .. How do you reconcile that ? What do you think about this 31.2 % reality ?
Another question , also. You seem proud of your multiple Trump voting. You are aware, aren't you ? ,that trump has clearly violated at least 7 of the 10 commandments that came down from an elusive Mt Sinai (via Moses) that cartographers and even biblical scholars can't find or provide coordinates for. Does this bother you in any way ?.....that you're supporting a non God fearing, God defying, chronic sinner for , perhaps ,the most important job on Earth.
I did answer your question...which of the other religions had a man who claimed to literally be God in the flesh, as I mentioned, and rose from the dead? Also, every other religion teaches us to earn our way to God. Followers of Christ know they cannot earn such a thing and it is by faith in Christ alone. Jesus loved us and died for us before we could do a single thing for Him. Furthermore, other religions have a bunch of rules to appease or satisfy their god. Followers of Christ believe that it is about a relationship with God. This is not a list of do's or don't do's. But when we receive His love, we can't help but do the right things, not because we have to...but because we want to. We choose to learn more about this God who would do so much for us and we want to show our thankfulness for His grace. We choose to follow Him knowing how much He loves us, sees the eternal picture, and has our best interest at heart. Finally, no other religion has a leader who died...AND CAME BACK TO LIFE! All other religious leaders are...dead. And for the record, I am not "proud of my Trump voting." I've explained how and why voting for him was the "lesser of two evils." Understand that neither Clinton or Biden are "God fearing" and are also sinners. But just like God using Cyrus the great to accomplish good in the sight of God, Trump also managed to accomplish good in the appointment of judges that would ultimately lead to less murders of babies in the womb. I hope this helps...have a blessed weekend, Blue Hen! Ok, thanks GG. You have a Nice one too.....and good luck vs Utah.
Correct me if wrong but you guarantee that Christianity is the only legitimate religion in the world ? Are all of Earth's people, past , present and future, ( Billions) that don't buy the old Bible lore and Jesus doomed to burn eternally in some Hell ?
Also, I'll try one more time : Creationism or Evolution ?

I feel your pain. I watched the Reds broadcast for the series and the announcers were hard pressed to find many positives to dwell on, although there are a couple good young players. On the other hand my long time favorite Phillies are frustrating to follow. Philadelphia has MLB's 4th highest payroll yet are only the 7th or 8th strongest team. We do get Bryce Harper back in the lineup om 9/1 which should give us a shot at one of the expanded wildcard playoff slots.

Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and numerous other less widespread religions believe some other deity (s) created "all" and knows "all".How do you reconcile that, GG ? Jesus was a real historical person. He is not mythology. He claimed to be God in the flesh and proved it throughout His walk on this earth and raising himself from the dead. If you witnessed someone like this who lived a sinless life, was crucified despite doing nothing wrong, then you watched him be placed in a tomb, and then met him three days later...what would you conclude?
GG, all your Jesus commentary is nice but it didn't remotely answer the question about the other religions of the world which have their own 'creators' and 'know it alls'.
