Why do we still have a coaches poll? Someone please make it go away As moronic and fraudulent as it is, it 'sells' ( Newspaper and internet advertising ) so as long as the dopiest segment of CF fandom pays attention to it...just like all the other assorted ridiculous polls, it'll probably be around. Over at CBS every writer has his own silly ranking system, and check out the 130 or so assorted ranking systems in the Massey Composite. 'Ranked, ranked, ranked, ranked ranked!!!. No other team sport on Earth is anywhere near as opinion-perception (mythical) driven as big time CF. Playing is light years superior to voting

Marshall received 3 (undeserved) votes this week, so I am all for it...

Simply add up all the references to the word 'ranked' by all the regular crowd around here in all the posts and that will tell you who is the most obsessed with these moronic polls and the mythical system. I will grade out to last place. Hey, you might be the mythical system champ !

Every sport has rankings though...all professional sports have POWER rankings, even if they are just for fun At this point, the AP Poll is like THE power ranking poll....It's been around so long, I can understand a desire to keep that poll. The Coaches poll is redundant. It's outlived it's usefulness...

I will, since it doens't seem to be working this year anyway. When I pick teams, I look at WHO each team has actually PLAYED in their previous 5 games. I never... repeat, NEVER look at any poll to help pick a winner. I do occasionally look at CJ's rankings. It's not a 'poll', it's an actual ranking that has some meaning. I'm actually a little worried about CJ. He hasn't updated his ranking this week? objectiverules.blogspot.com.br/

I don’t have a problem with either poll. They are simply opinions, and not facts.
If forced into making a choice, would you have more trust in sports journalists or in college football coaches to assess the relative strength of college football teams?

I guess you wouldn't be a candidate for the poster most trapped within the mythical box around here.

If forced into making a choice, would you have more trust in sports journalists or in college football coaches to assess the relative strength of college football teams? For two years I did a survey of bowl predictions matching up the two pop polls ( coaches & AP ) plus the Vegas gambling lines. No contest ...Vegas clobbered both. When you see a poll voted # 6 being an underdog to a poll voted #16, for example that's because the pop polls are bull. I trust the scoreboards more than any mythical system ( playing is better than voting) but in my 45 years of being a CF junkie I've found that the Vegas lines tell you more about relative strength than any media/ coaches polls or computer geek systems and are significantly more reliable as predictors.
