Even better -- let the Big 12 implode. Go to four-team conference championships with the four champions advancing to a national playoff. If you want to appease the G5, then you could just specify the top 4 conference champions. Voila - a 16-team playoff that awards actually winning a conference.

How about disbanding the bloated mega-conferences and forcing every conference to play a balanced schedule.

Yes, go to 10 max members. drop the cupcake weekend out of the schedule and add back the playoff.

I'm on board with this. The current system does not value conference championship games. They either need to value them, or get rid of them. what is the point of them right now? USC had to beat Stanford twice, and got nothing for it really....TCU got s mulligan and still lost Auburn had to beat Georgia twice...is that really fair? In the current system, there is no incentive to being #1 or #2 The playoff is better and headed in the right direction, but it's still a mess...

I think that would be easier said than done... you can still crown a champion though Wisconsin would probably have been Big 10 champs this year 😄

I agree.. there is NOTHING fair about anything in the FBS conference right now. It's all one big fustercluck. Uneven schedules where teams go years without playing against teams supposedly in the SAME conference? The Big 12 plays a round robin, and then STILL plays a CCG. What if one team goes undefeated? Why do they have to play again? It's nuts. There IS NO institutional guidance, or really, any desire (apparently) to seek fairness.

Ya, the 13th data point argument has gone out the window the past two years...I don't really know the incentive for the Big XII to play a championship game USC had the strongest SOS between them, Bama, and Ohio State. That was completely ignored by the media we have good matchups, but does it accurately reflect the regular season? Not really

we have good matchups, but does it accurately reflect the regular season? Not really I will say this, since the CFP system was put in place, the Bowl matchups outside of the playoffs, have been excellent. I know I have really enjoyed the bowl season the past couple of years. Not sure why that couldn't have been done long ago? And, the 4 team playoff is accomplishing the intent: It pairs up the teams that had the best resumes. I don't think we're getting any closer to an 8 team playoff. If anything, I think we're farther away. The "powers that be" are happy with the way things are going. They NEVER wanted to go to 4 teams. They REALLY don't want to go to 8. I seriously doubt I'll be alive to see any 8 team FBS playoff.

Imagine these eight in a playoff. Clemson Georgia Oklahoma Ohio State USC Alabama Wisconsin UCF Sounds great to you and me. I doubt many University Presidents get excited by it.
