Just a gentle reminder that we have an income tax process, not a wealth tax process - the except being the Lifetime Gift and Estate Tax Process. For tax year 2020, the top 1 percent of income earners paid 42.3 percent of all federal income tax; the top 5 percent paid 62.7 percent, and the top 10 percent paid 73.7 percent. The top 1 percent’s income share rose from 20.1 percent in 2019 to 22.2 percent in 2020 and its share of federal income taxes paid rose from 38.8 percent to 42.3 percent. The top 50 percent of all taxpayers paid 97.7 percent of all federal individual income taxes, while the bottom 50 percent paid the remaining 2.3 percent. So the Top 1% earned 20% of the income, but paid >40% of the income taxes. That's not "fair". I put fair in quotes, because the usual hue and cry is "rich people need to pay their fair share". The top 1% paid an average rate of 26%. Biden's favorite prevarication is that school teachers and firefighters pay a higher rate than billionaires. "That's not who we are!" "We need to be better!" Thanks... I read the wrong line in my comments above. It won't matter though... the brainwashed commies will always want to rich to pay MORE.

You hit the nail on the head with that first point, and that is my point. We have people being space tourists while also paying a non-living wage that must be subsidized by the government, and people are blaming the people living off welfare? Absolute non-sense, a hell of a brain washing propaganda effort. And the irony is that "Christians" love blaming the poor. I guess they are masturbating to their stock portfolios instead of paying attention on Sunday?
The tax structure being income based, with so many ways to avoid taxes while accumulating absolute absurd amount of wealth, is a huge problem. But pointing out means I'm jealous. I have a republican/Christian solution: shove poor people into meat grinders and use them as rocket fuel for space tourism. Welfare problem solved!
Also I know that math is your weak point, but the top 1% are not all billionaires, so your data does not discount Biden's point about billionaires.

Didn’t take long for you to come off the rails.
Congrats on reclaiming your reputation.
I'm not blaming the poor for anything. I blame a system where politicians can get votes from the poor for giving them goodies. The poor are acting in their own self-interest. Why work when you can vote for a party that will GIVE you everything you need? Not all the poor, of course. Many... most, I hope, desire to be better off and will continue to strive to achieve. But, we have incentives in our system today that PUNISH a person for making too much.. And I don't mean at the billionaire level. Make a few too many thousands, and you lose your "free" health care. Strong incentives.
The number of yachts or cars owned by Elon isn't going to impact them. Some of the things he invents just might.
You ARE jealous.. and, you know it. At some level, you probably hate yourself for it. It's unhealthy. You should let it go, and be THANKFULL for what you have. That, is the real key to happiness.

Didn’t take long for you to come off the rails. Congrats on reclaiming your reputation. I guess all it takes for me to come off the rails are “Christians” ignoring the Bible due to political brainwashing. For some reason it gets me going. Maybe it is the hypocrisy? I have generally moderate positions. Billionaires should pay more in taxes is one opinion I have expressed in this thread. This forum is so far right that I’m a communist for even suggesting such blasphemy.

If you express your opinions without being disgusting, you will be far more convincing. Elon paid 53% tax on his billions in stock options last year. Just curious.. what % do YOU think he should have paid? Oh... and the reason he cashed in those options was so he could buy Twitter and start exposing, for all the world to see, the blatant liberal censorship in our media and government. Never in history has one man sacrificed so much money for the public good. And, you apparently hate him for it??

My words are just words, if you find them disgusting, they are just describing your world view. That people should be oppressed because they are poor. I find that disgusting, and as I have pointed out, so does the Bible. Musk selling options was a rare event of billions being classified as income. Not normal for billionaires hoarding wealth. His 53% is a steal compared to what it was back when we built the post war American dream and actually had a middle class. I am not opposed to it being higher. The fact that billionaires exist is the high level evidence that things are broken. You are blaming the serf for simply existing, while the kings buy companies solely to be internet trolls.

I never said all of the top 1% were billionaires. Biden's lie remains just that. In fact, to make the top 1% of earners, you'll need to make $597,815 or more. To be in the top 1% of wealth, you'll need at least $11.1 million. The fact that billionaires exist is the high level evidence that things are broken. Well... there it is. Man, you have a WARPED view of our world. Yea... it's those BILLIONAIRES who are bankrupting our country. Very simplistic view, but not unexpected. The billionaires hoard wealth, while those who work for them are forced into government subsidized living due to low wages. Your solution… take away rights from those forced into subsidized living. Because they are abusing the system. Please reflect on that stupidity. You are blaming the serf for simply existing, while worshiping the king for abusing the system and the serfs. The irony is that those who worship the king for taking advantage of the serf, and blame the serf because they are poor, are also those who pretend to be Christian. That to me is mind boggling.

As long as you believe that liberal dogma, you're going to limit your own success. No Billionaire is keeping you down. Get real dude. Most billionaires work, very hard, for their money. CEO's too. I've met a few. I guarantee you, Elon works harder than you and I, both put together. Probably by a multiple factor. I don't think too many of his employees are being forced into government subsidized housing. Hell, Musk is now contemplating giving FREE housing to factory workers, complete with solar power installed. The biggest limitation to his growth plan is, lack of affordable housing for his workers. Most billionaires are generously philanthropic, using their acquired wealth to fund projects that they think will help humanity. Granted, it's THEIR decision..... not the government's decision. Politicians, as group, despise that kind of action. Now, about the 'serfs'. As I said before, I don't blame them. I blame the politicians who have built these systems that have created long-term dependency. When you GIVE people everything they need, you end up with generational dependency. That's where we are today with far too many. Others are being held back by the lack of good schooling, compounded by cultural factors, such as single-parent homes, and drug dependency. I truly believe the 'serfs' have a better chance of having their lives improved by the innovation brought forth from billionaires than from the blood-sucking leaches that populate our government. Bottom line though is: As a country, we are spending ourselves into oblivion. If we don't find SOME way to get it under control, living conditions here will get a LOT worse for 'serfs'. I was worried 20 years ago that we were too far gone to save ourselves. I can barely fathom a good outcome now. Somehow, some way, we've GOT to limit spending increases... and, find ways to generate more revenue.... in ways that are not destructive to wealth creation. We need to, at least, balance our budget. At this point, if we took EVERY nickel that every Billionaire has, it wouldn't make a dent in our long-term liabilities. For all their great individual wealth, the REAL money remains distributed among the masses. Well, half of the masses, anyway.

At this point, if we took EVERY nickel that every Billionaire has, it wouldn't make a dent in our long-term liabilities. For all their great individual wealth, the REAL money remains distributed among the masses. Well, half of the masses, anyway. A few questions and a comment:
-How much harder does Elon work than me? Assume I have a net worth of $500,000, but he has 15 years on me. What is the "multiple factor" of how much harder he works than me, assuming this is a meritocracy?
-You talk about wealth creation. We should cherish wealth creation especially via innovation, but does wealth accumulated at the top really do everyone else much good? I haven't vetted the source, but apparently the top 1% has accumulated 63% of the new wealth created over the last couple of years. Do you think this a healthy balance?
-Do you agree that people working full time at any job should need any type of government subsidy?
This worldview is not built out of jealousy but rather common sense. I agree we have a political problem, and I agree it is that of influence. I will argue that those who have the most influence are not the serfs, but the kings. This is not a democrat vs. republican problem, this is a wealth hoarder vs. common man problem. A king vs. serf problem.
