I'm not really a hoops fan (at any level) but isn't this championship a bunch of fun ? It's because PLAYING is light years better than VOTING to determine championships. Every NCAA team sport championship is decided this way. The final 4,2, and champ is decided by PLAYING. The only college team sport (FBS level) that is NOT an NCAA championship has it's final 4 decided by VOTING. No good. The biggest strength of the March Madness tournament is that it's a full fledged NATIONAL tournament College football has sorely lacked this for so long, that we see PAC12 schools leaving for the Big 10 because the conference has suffered from being locked out of the playoff for so long This pseudo-playoff, highly regional invitational has hurt the sport
just a reminder, Evil......not all of CF but only the big TV exhibition division ( bowl division). There are 3 other divisions and sub divisions of NCAA football (about 400 teams) that determine their champs with a "full fledged NATIONAL tournament" and equal opportunity and access.

Would FAU or even UConn have this opportunity if they had to rely on some goofy 'committee' to vote them into a final four ?

It only takes a couple of players to change a basketball team.
3 D1 transfers or 3 Jucos.
Much easier to "catch lightning in a jar" in basketball.

Just as long as we realize that the NCAA Tournament isn’t designed to crown the best team in the sport all year. Sure, the best team sometimes does win it — but it often comes down to chaos, individual matchups and a night when your best shooters suddenly can’t hit a three. That’s why it’s so compelling...it's entertainment value. Just look at this thread title - best tourney ever? Would this thread have been posted if the final 4 was all of the #1 seeds and all of the higher ranked teams won every game? This is also the reason that expanding the football playoff is not about the "champion", it's about entertainment value.

Ehhhhh, I don't know about some of that , cpa. This concept of "best team" can still only be guessed at...speculated, based on regular season records.....and a regular season featuring entirely different conferences , schedules and opponents. How do we really know which is truly the "best team" ?. At least with a championship playoff, with all the good teams competing with and eliminating each other, we don't have to 'guess' who the final champion is. You know me....I'll take PROVEN winner over speculated "best team" any time. Basically 'real' vs 'mythical' in sports and everything else in life.

Technically, a college basketball team could lose every single regular-season game, win its conference tournament, get the automatic bid to the NCAAs, then win six straight in the Big Dance ... giving you a "national champion" with a 9-27 record. Do we really want that? People also thought 16 defeating 1 would never happen as well. Do we really want to throw away the regular season? As it is now, the regular season is almost as useless as an ashtray on a motorcycle.

cpa, buddy, get back to me if that scenario ever happens. Let's debate and discuss 'playing' vs 'voting' within a realistic context. BTW, I'm not a big fan of conference tournament winners determining any league's hoops playoff entry. For the big brand TV leagues it's not so critical as they always get several at-large invites which nicely cover the regular season champs.
For football you can have an inclusive equal opportunity championship playoff with a more meaningful regular season than ever with the 16 team plan I favor....and be relieved, cpa, because there would never be league football tournaments at the end of the regular season to determine anything.

Equal access to the championship playoff has allowed for a lot of parity in college basketball. Maybe this will happen in college football as well? Actually, I think the transfer portal has had a huge impact on the so called, mid-majors and non-blue blood programs. Kids aren't going to sit on a long bench when they know they can go elsewhere and play. Kansas State has 13 players who started their college careers at other programs. There are many, many others who left schools and found playing time. With only 5 starters it's easier to see the impact than with college football. Players with chips on their shoulders, who have gone through adversity and had an couple years to mature can play with a group of highly touted freshmen who have one eye on heading to the NBA after one year of college ball. I think you're 100% right about this... and, it's going to impact football too... it just takes a little longer. The Top programs can no longer stack a bench with star players. Remember, just a few years ago, Calipari started TWO teams of 5 players all year, and dominated. Of course, he screwed himself by deciding to change in the tourney and just play with 7.... with guys who hadn't played together all year. No one can do that now. Players don't have to stay. Maybe, in football... they stay longer, cause the chances that the guy in front of you gets hurt is higher? And, there's so many roster spots, they can also offer spots to guys who "always wanted to play at XXX" but didn't make it based on their HS play? Oh well... I don't care about the Madnes any more this year. I got NOBODY playing in it that I care a whit about. When they're ALL Cinderellas, it' not quite as exciting. Nobody wants to see a bunch of "Davids" fighting each other. lol

....and meanwhile the lady Hokies reach the final four. That doesn't excite you, Bevo ??
and there is a way to prevent all these unworthy 'Davids' from screwing up the entertainment value of sports championships........simply stop the on court competition and just 'vote'.

"voting" is looking good to the money-making people right now...

Congrats to your Hokies! Surprised the Buckeyes did not try to press more. Maybe they saw that as a bad strategy against the Hokies but it certainly tore up UConn

I think it was the proper strategy to press more but that little scat back ( 5'6" Georgia Amoore ) pretty much , singlehandedly, dribbled and blew through it most of the time. UConn didn't have a press breaker quite like that......all IMO , with minimum knowledge of basketball. IYO, can Iowa play with SC ?

They have great ball movement and rebounding. Iowa might be able to hang with them, if Caitlin has another really hot night.
