Here's how I think things will look at around midnight on December 7, 2020... Clemson will be 13-0 The Big Ten champ will be 13-0 or 12-1 The Big 12 champ will be 12-1 The Pac 12 champ will be 12-1 SEC champ will be 13-0 or 12-1 Depending upon the SEC champ, there will be one or 2 other SEC teams with 12-1 or 11-1 records. The conferences better rev up the hype machines because there is going to be a ton of lobbying going on in those final days and minutes. I think it is already started. ESPN always throws out the "eye test" Gee I wonder where the MCFP Chairman heard that one considering he used it to justify his picks. Yeah, it's called avoiding accountability. Look how well the eye test worked on the first weekend.

In all honesty I have no doubt that Alabama has one of the 4 most talented teams in the country. But when you base everyone elses ranking on resume and theirs is on 'eye test', I don't know about that. You can't have 2 sets of rules. There are things that make it interesting, though - Oregon and Utah really haven't beaten anyone either and have worse losses. But one will eventually have a top 5-8 win. Alabama doesn't have that opportunity now.

In the Cartel's championship system maybe just take the top 4 teams with the highest 4 year average recruiting rankings and appoint them directly into the DR Pepper Invitational. If the Cartel is committed to a mythical championship system than go 100000% all out mythical. Perceived 'talent' is all you need. To hell with actual resumes, merit, accomplishment, W-L records, and all that competition based nonsense. Wouldn't that provide the real, 'four best teams' ??

That seems to be the way YOU think it works.... but, it's just not reality.
PLAY ON THE FIELD matters. All teams do a LOT of it over the course of the season.
Three teams (LSU, OSU, and Clemson) are on a course to lock themselves in to the CFP, no matter what the committee, or Dr. Pepper think.
One lucky team will get a mulligan that they don't deserve. It really doesn't matter who. They could draw straws among all the 1-loss teams for all I care. The committee TRIES to pick the team they think would have the best chance of winning. They've done a pretty good job of picking in the first 5 years of this system.

Does my heart good to hear you say "Play on the field matters", Bevo., although sometimes it seems only secondary to the committee...secondary to perceived talent & reputation.
Again, to reference the championship divisions of NCAA football their more inclusive championships tend to include the most talented 'best' teams AND the most deserving 'best' teams with all the assorted champions given an opportunity. I still think it's a better and more fair way.

That's fine, when you have a group of teams that NO ONE watches. NO ONE cares whether they take a third of their season to invite EVERYONE to a giant playoff.
It doesn't work at the FBS level.

Basing the rankings on paper talent, or what a team did 2 years ago is absolute silliness. What have the teams done this year?

With a star QB playing on one leg?

No, I mean like beating 3 teams that are at or above .500. Don't fall for the final meaningless TD. They never had the ball with a chance to take the lead after their 1st possession of the game. Down 20 at half. Trailed 54 minutes of the game, mostly by two scores, they were at home, and gave up the most points in 90 years. We don’t know if Tua was 75%, 20% or 99%. We do know that he played and threw for 400+ yds, so the injury is not a valid excuse. If Tua gets hurt in the playoff what do we do then? Postpone until he's healthy? Play it in May? Alabama is insanely talented. Bama's defense is not as talented as in recent years and they are giving up nearly 19 points a game. that's up 60% from 2017. Unchartered territory for a Saban defense. Bama has not beaten a good team yet this season. Bama is still a very good team. I don't know if Bama deserves a playoff spot, but there are still games left to be played to help us decide.

According to Sagarin, Bama's Schedule strength is 20 spots better than Clemson's... (74 vs 51). But, I still think Clemson is pretty darn good.

An FBS championship for the entire FBS would / could work fine. The Cartel would have to give up the greed but it would work beautifully , imo Bevo. The fan interest in the bracketology would even surpass that of 'march Madness' , IMO.

Comes back to the 'most talented vs most deserving' debate. Still a lot of football to be played, we'll see how things look late Saturday night, December 7.

IF the committee is looking at most talented, then we don't need a regular season.
Select OSU, USC, Bama and UGA and start playing.
Ahhh yes....the old "out of the room" trick
