Or maybe they just got bad matchups?
Dabo and the coaches were emphatic about getting tOSU in the semi's instead of Washington last year. Why?
They saw film that indicated tOSU was a slower, more predictable, one-dimensional offense. Playcalling showed no creativity. Venables aggressive defense is more successful against these types of offenses, the pace of play is slower.
Washington played faster, and their passing game would have given Clemson's defense, especially LBs.
And sometimes, you just run into a buzzsaw...I mean Iowa sometimes doesn't score 55 points in basketball...
The winner, by definition, is the better team on the day two teams play. That is how championship playoffs work. It has zero to do with “resumes”, SOS or which team had the best season. The average scoring margin in CFP games is 23.75 points (off the top of my head). The question is whether any team ranked below #4 would have been more competitive in any of the CFP semifinals. The number of huge scoring margins suggests that is a distinct possibility in several of the CFP semifinal games. Could be, or it just could be random occurrences.

“Could be” casts doubt and establishes uncertainty. But, the frequency of semifinals blowouts makes it much more than “could be” or even “probably”.
“Highly likely” is more reasonable. The evidence isn’t very far from being “conclusive”.

There is no such animal as a “truthful opinion”. An opinion, once proved to be true, becomes fact. I am astonished that you don’t or can’t understand something so fundamental. You know full well that I detest Hillary and what she stands for, and believe that she and her husband belong behind bars. Yet, you knowingly persist with this lie that I am a Hillary supporter. Desperation. Weakness. All stemming from an inability to compete with me in the arena of ideas. Semantics... truthful, or honest.. whatever. It was a truthful assessment of my own opinion. I could just as easily given a false, or dishonest opinion. So great to know we have a grammar Nazi on the board. For more than a year, you came on this board demeaning, denigrating, and spreading false stories about Hillary's ONLY opponent. If you ever said a bad word about Hillary, you spent 10X as much time degrading her opponent. In my book, that makes you a Hillary supporter. Robby Mook couldn't have done a better job than you did here.. and, Hillary PAID him. I'm sorry that the truth hurts you so deeply.

The average scoring margin in CFP games is 23.75 points (off the top of my head).. All that proves is, we've had MORE teams in the playoffs than actually deserved to be. We would have been better off last year with just two. No teams could make a legitimate case to be more deserving of a playoff spot than Clemson, the eventually Champion. I think Penn State deserved it over Ohio State... but, it was very close. Realistically, NEITHER of them was deserving of a "mulligan". Two teams towered over all the rest. And, they proved it by dominating the Semi-Final opponents.

There are always more teams than necessary in any playoff, at any level. All that is required is 2 teams — as long as the two teams selected are always the best 2 teams.
However, experience has taught us that, far more often than not, the top 2 seeds do not meet in the finals.
It is an inexact science. That is why the CFP has probably failed nearly every time to get the top-4 correct. That is why an inclusive playoff is essential to ensuring to a high degree of certainty that the best 2 teams are somewhere in the field.
If it was an exact science, there would be no need for a playoff at all. Unfortunately, the person hasn’t been born, (and the computer program hasn’t been written) who (or that) can be relied upon to be 100% accurate, 100% of the time.

UCONN in hoops when the were not a top 25 team and had a nice 6 game run. Or any BCS crowned champ.

To the contrary, I have on repeated occasions said that she should be criminally prosecuted, and hopefully convicted, sentenced and imprisoned. You must certainly know I detest her intensely. I have indeed hammered Donald Trump, with good reason. He is an utterly despicable human being. Even so, I have expressed support for most of his policies and appointments. I have said that he has the potential to become a great president. I probably have spent 10x as much time attacking Trump on this forum as I have attacking Hillary. We all are of like mind when it comes to Hillary, but I am the only independent thinker on this forum when it comes to Trump. He is a horrible person. Please quit lying about me.

There is a fundamental misunderstanding that the national champion should be the team that had the best season. It isn’t necessarily so. National champions are always the teams that are playing the best at the end of the season, regardless of what happened during the course of the season. Jim Valvano’s Wolfpack suffered double digit losses during the 1982-83 season, but they gelled by conference championship time and proved to be the best team during the playoffs.

Actually I do and the entire CFWorld agrees that I am correct. Your so called proof is proof of nothing other than the best teams advance, as they should...Good scoop Sherlock. You know that the “entire CFWorld agrees” with you? I envision men with white coats paying you a visit. All it proves is that the better team in each semifinal matchup advanced. The wide scoring margins are unconvincing evidence that the roundly defeated teams were among the best four teams overall. To the contrary, it suggests they likely weren’t. Proof?

CBS was referring to games that impacted the Invitational Semi-Finals only......3.8% of remaining regular season games....not coaching opportunity games. I don't buy that 3.8 statistic. There are 120 tams in the CFP FBS division that equates to about 120 games over a 2 week period. That being the case you are talking about a grand total of maybe 5 games that matter of the next 2 weeks. The ACC alone will have Miame vs Pitt and UVA the Clemson vs SClight followed by a championship game. Everyone of those games matters and impacts the Inviatational AJ, buddy..common knowledge that there are 130 FBS teams, not 120. That's 130 remaining FBS games (last two weeks) of which CBS says only 5 are meaningful. 5 of 130 = 3.8 %. every time. When only 3.8% of 'crunch time' football is meaningful then the 'most meaningful season in sports' is a blatant myth.

I have pointed it out a number of times. It didn't impact you then and won't impact you that you have done so today. By all means, carry on. As I said before, that ship has sailed.
