Clemson still has a chance, but they need certain things to happen: > TCU loses > Georgia beats LSU in the SEC Championship > USC loses
All very likely to happen. They also need to jump Alabama, but I think this will happen with an ACC Championship win over North Carolina

How bad does the media whiff at ranking teams?
original preseason poll for 2022 had: #6 Texas A&M #9 Oklahoma #15 Michigan State #16 Miami FL #17 Pitt #19 Arkansas
Not ranked: Tennessee LSU UCF Kansas State North Carolina UCLA TCU Washington
How the hell did the media whiff so bad on Tennessee?

The Big 10 is absolutely horrid this year and basically unwatchable. Ohio State is the only interesting team. I don't really trust Michigan vs. elite teams
Here was the slate of games this past weekend:
Ohio State vs. Indiana Purdue vs. Illinois Michigan State vs. Rutgers Michigan vs. Nebraska Iowa vs. Wisconsin Penn State vs. Maryland Minnesota vs. Northwestern
Sorry but this is absolutely garbage football....
I think adding USC and UCLA should add some flavor to the Big 10 schedule, because its really bad. The Big 10 should go ahead and add Oregon and Washington as well...
Ohio State and Michigan have just waltzed through the worst P5 conference by far this year. If Michigan loses to Ohio State, there should be no "second chance" for them. They should be gone and booted from the 4-team playoff...
And here is what we have to look forward to with the SEC this weekend Alabama vs. Austin Peay Miss St vs. East Tennessee St LSU vs. UAB A&M vs. UMass Missouri vs. New Mexico St Auburn vs. Western Kentucky while that is pretty pitiful football, especially Alabama vs. Austin Peay...
The SEC has Georgia @ Kentucky, which is way better than any Big 10 game this week.
The PAC 12 has both conferences beat though, with USC @ UCLA, and Utah @ Oregon

If...
LSU beats Georgia (SEC Championship)
Kansas State beats TCU (Big XII Championship) USC loses
You could have a scenario where 3 SEC teams get in the playoff.
I think this would be the absolute death knell for the 4-team playoff. And I think this would be a good thing.
College football needs and deserves to have conference champs rewarded with playoff berths. This is literally how every other sport works. The Big XII, PAC 12, and ACC Champs SHOULD BE IN THE PLAYOFF
Particularly the Big XII Champ. The Big XII has been the most competitive conference this year. Not having their champ in the playoff is criminal, but TCU already has perceptual bias against them. College football needs to minimize the bias and start letting these teams play it out on the field.
[bri I thought it this last night and I honestly don’t think there’s a chance it happens…… even if things play out the way you think they will. The Playoff committee is made up of people from all regions of the country….. I know it’s not supposed to happen but I do think the human element will come into this a bit. Do you really think anyone from an association with Big Ten Country wants three SEC teams in the playoff? Especially since the Big Ten had its champion left out of the playoff in 2016 in a very similar scenario to this years LSU(Penn State won the Big Ten despite a close loss and a Blowout loss to Michigan)….. do you think any former coaches with ACC ties are going to deny Clemson over LSU or Tennessee? I still think the SEC getting three teams is very unlikely(ESPN though that’s what ESPN is hoping for) I think if things unfold the way you’re talking about Clemson would be picked over either Tennessee or LSU….. I think it’s very possible in that scenario the SEC gets 2…… I still think there’s less than a 10% chance they’ll get 3. We’re all dealing with predictions here, so I’ll give mine I don’t think LSU beats Georgia, I think they’ll make them sweat but the Dawgs will go unbeaten. People are waiting for TCU to lose……. It’s not going to happen…… I think they might play a couple close games(at Baylor and Kansas State for the Big XII title but I like their composer in close games and I think they go undefeated. The Ohio State/Michigan game is a complete tossup to me…… the winner will be the two seed however though I think there will be a debate for the four seed between Michigan/OSU, Tennessee and Clemson but I think Tennessee would get the nod. I think it will be 1) Georgia vs 4) TCU: I think TCU will get moved to 4 after playing a close game against Kansas State in the Big XII title game…… I think the commitee thinking Tennessee is actually the better team and they’ll want to reward Georgia for earning the top seed 2: Ohio State vs 3) Tennessee However if your scenario plays out Evil I believe LSU will be passed over for Georgia and Tennessee….. it’s crazy I know but the committee has kinda already done this before(Took Ohio State over Penn State in 2016) 1 Ohio State/Michigan 4 TCU 3 Tennessee 2 Georgia ******* unless LSU really lays the hammer to Georgia I generally agree with all this...
For LSU to have any shot at getting in, I think they need TCU to lose
Although if LSU destroyed Georgia, maybe the Bulldawgs get booted...
Georgia would have wins over Tennessee and Oregon though. And maybe Oregon is PAC 12 Champs

SCENARIO 1
Most people will want Georgia to win, because the playoff makes more sense if they win
>>Georgia and Tennessee get in >>Ohio State/Michigan winner gets in >>TCU??
---
SCENARIO 1a
If TCU loses...who is #4?
Does Michigan slip back in?
I think there is a healthy debate between a 11-1 TCU vs. 11-1 Michigan.
The Big 10 has been a cakewalk...BUT Michigan has the namebrand
Does Clemson slip in as 12-1 ACC Champs?
---
SCENARIO 2
But what happens if Georgia loses? LSU has athletes like Georgia does...the LSU defense looks increasingly better every game. If LSU pulls off the upset
>>I think Georgia and Tennessee STILL get in. (Georgia still got in last year after losing the SEC Championship)
>>Ohio State/Michigan winner gets in >>TCU gets in if they win out....
BUT....if TCU loses....I think LSU as SEC Champs with wins over Georgia and Alabama get in at #4
#1 Ohio State vs. #4 LSU #2 Georgia vs. #3 Tennessee
I believe there will be a gigantic push to get LSU in. And they absolutely SHOULD be in a theoretical playoff, because having non-conference champ teams ahead of the team that won the conference is asinine and only happens in college football.

Tennessee has two games left:
@ South Carolina @ Vandy
They are going to win out
Furthermore, I think Hendon Hooker wins the Heisman...he's a shoe-in IMO. If the Vols didn't have Hooker, they wouldn't be anywhere near the playoff at the moment. He is the most valuable player to his team
The ONLY team that I think can jump Tennessee at this point and possibly push them out of the top 4 is USC
The media would love to put USC in the playoff
The problem for USC is: @ UCLA Notre Dame PAC 12 Championship vs. most likely Oregon
Big money says they don't win those 3 games
Tennessee is a near-lock

I think the ACC is a little better than the Big 10, but not much
After almost 20 years of the Miami addition, the conference has nothing to show for itself besides FSU and Clemson...still...
Notre Dame, the team that lost to Ohio State, Marshall, and Stanford has gone undefeated against their ACC schedule, and probably would have won the ACC Championship if they were part of the conference.
Virginia Tech is 2-8...geez
Wake Forest and NC State have now slid off the perch they were on...predictably

Semifinals:
Peach Bowl: #2 Georgia vs. #3 Tennessee*Fiesta Bowl: #1 Ohio State vs. #4 LSU
Rest of NY6 Bowls:
Orange Bowl: Clemson vs. Notre Dame Rose Bowl: Michigan vs. Oregon Cotton Bowl: TCU vs. UCF
Sugar Bowl: Kansas State vs. Alabama
---
The 3-SEC-teams-in-the-playoff scenario has finally arrived...(which is why going to 12 teams is a good thing)
I think we are two upsets away from this scenario.
LSU upsets Georgia in Atlanta Kansas State upsets TCU in the Big XII Championship
I think this scenario puts LSU in the playoff. LSU has the talent to beat Georgia. I also think Kansas State is playing at a high level with Howard at QB and has a great chance to knock off TCU
TENNESSEE* --> they are close to a lock for the playoff
The other factor that set this scenario up was the death blow to the PAC 12 chances of making the playoff. Both UCLA and Oregon lost this weekend. Sure USC is sitting out there with 1 loss...look at who they play: UCLA and Notre Dame and possibly Oregon (PAC 12 Champ.)
Is Clemson (and the ACC by proxy) getting shafted? ya I think so...it remains to be seen if they can start jumping Alabama and Oregon. Clemson still has a slim outside shot IMO. They need:
>TCU to lose >USC to lose (preferably to Notre Dame)
>LSU to lose
If all that happens, they might be able to leapfrog into the 4 spot

LSU most likely headed to Atlanta
They would have to lose to both Arkansas and Texas A&M to slip up
I don't see that happening

I know Mario Cristobal is recruiting well, but he seems like an awful coach... The crowds at Miami games (not counting last night) have been atrocious When realignment is discussed, the valuation of a program is analyzed, such as brand, academics, type of program, geography, etc. I just don't think Miami has it anymore... they've done jack squat in the ACC I'm actually starting to think UCF has more room to grow, and may end up being a better program than Miami
Is Miami an anomaly that has peaked out?

Lots of changes yesterday. I hate seeing Brian Kelly beat anyone I think he has a chip on his shoulder...He's hungry for a National Title. He could only get so far with Notre Dame, but now he's got SEC talent

Lol. Yea… they just have the “best” teams at the top, win the most natty’s, recruit the best, have the most players in the NFL… I can’t understand why people give them the most respect either ?? But, you’re right. The SEC doesn’t have a monopoly on talent, or good teams. And they have their share of mediocre, even bad teams. You're talking about LSU, Alabama, and Georgia...thats it
Tennessee has certainly had an amazing year
Florida and Auburn have trended down to mediocrity...Florida lost to UCF last year in their bowl
Who else is there in the SEC that's all-powerful with amazing athletes? Missouri? South Carolina?
Ole Miss, Miss St., and Texas A&M are consistently overrated...
Baylor beat Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl last year. In fact, in 2012, the SEC and Big XII signed a contract to have their teams play in the Sugar Bowl. The Big XII holds a 4-2 lead in those games which include wins over Alabama and Georgia
Last year, Georgia's closest game (besides the Alabama loss), was a 10-3 win over OOC foe Clemson. Georgia breezed through the SEC East
You have 3 excellent teams, and a lot of coattail ridin IMO
