I think we are conditioned to look for 3/4 elite teams each year. This year, there aren’t 3/4 elite teams. But, by all means, please expand to 12 teams. IMO, the 12 team playoff values the conference champ
For Clemson, simply winning the ACC puts them in. Beating South Carolina might put Clemson in position for a bye

Law of averages says that kind of lightning won’t strike twice. plus Clemson has a much better Defense than Tennessee

I'm pulling for LSU of course,
but a Ohio State vs. TCU, Georgia vs. USC playoff would be a lot of fun

In all fairness, Alabama lost 2 road games to highly ranked opponents on the last play of both games - if they were pitted against TCU they’d probably be favored and I’d certainly pick them to win. [b I get your point but in fairness the New England Patriots were better than the New York Giants when they were undefeated and lost the Super Bowl and we didn’t give the Patriots a do-over. Sometimes in sports the better team loses the playoff game…. I love college football, and have no doubt that Alabama if they got in this year could win the whole thing still…… BUT at some point you can’t give them a do-over….. and especially this year when they really didn’t earn a chance at a do-over. Alabama this year nearly lost to 3-7 Texas A&M at home( without Bryce Young but still) , They barely beat a decent Texas team on the road that played its backup qb three quarters of the game when they were healthy…… my argument would be(if they made it) how fair would it be to give Alabama the benefit of the doubt all the time? I get a lot of years they kinda deserve it this year they don’t. Alabama has zero chance They are permanently behind Tennessee now. Vols beat them head to head

Clemson has dominated this series the last 7 years.
This game has become an auto-win for Dabo & Tigers, but last night should put some worry back in Clemson
Spencer Rattler was on fire and absolutely torched Tennessee...can they do it again against Clemson?
Clemson still has an outside shot at the playoff on the line

Texas and Florida State have never played each other
The Cheeze-IT bowl is the only bowl that guarantees ACC vs. Big XII
Make it happen Cheeze-IT!

Alabama is done...I think they are permanently behind Tennessee
It will be interesting if Oregon jumps them and Tennessee

Semifinals:
Peach Bowl: #2 Georgia vs. #3 Clemson Fiesta Bowl: #1 Ohio State vs. #4 LSU
Rest of NY6 Bowls:
Orange Bowl: North Carolina vs. Alabama Rose Bowl: Michigan vs. Oregon Cotton Bowl: TCU vs. Tulane
Sugar Bowl: Kansas State vs. Tennessee
---
So...these projections are based on:
>> USC still losing a game Good win over UCLA yesterday, but now Notre Dame is next, and then Oregon most likely.
>> TCU losing a game I'm highly skeptical about them beating Kansas State twice
Who benefited from Tennessee losing yesterday? The Tennessee loss basically opened up a playoff spot.
Besides USC and TCU, I think Clemson and the Ohio State-Michigan loser both benefited.
Also, I have LSU upsetting Georgia in the SEC Championship. IF LSU loses though, the Ohio State-Michigan loser will most likely be #4 (assuming TCU and USC still lose).
The G5 bid is still muddled; UCF lost, opening the door for Tulane, Coastal Carolina, and Cincinnati.

Alot of assumptions in this thread...
IMO, TCU is going to have a very hard time beating Kansas State again. K-State has hit another gear with Howard at QB...
Also, IMO, the Big XII is overall the best conference right now. There are some good teams at the top, but no gimme games.
I don't know if TCU has the wheels to win it all, but I could see them giving Ohio State and Tennessee some issues. TCU has a couple of WRs that will be in the NFL.
The massively overrated team IMO is Michigan. Barely beat Illinois today. I think Ohio State is going to roll them next week.
but ya, comparing conference strength THIS season, the Big XII is much better than the Big 10
Also, looking at the SEC...ya you've got excellent teams at the top, but then you have your clunkers, like Vandy beating the Gators today. U-G-L-Y

I think the North Carolina needs a lot to happen if they win out
> TCU loses > Georgia beats LSU > USC loses
It would help if the sports media gave them more of a spotlight. The media perception doesn't support Tarheel football, or even most of the ACC

Joel Klatt had some interesting perspective on the 4 team vs the 12 team playoff on fox sports. In summary between the 2 with 3 weeks left plus a championship game. With the 4 Team playoff we have 4 teams that control their destiny tOSU, UGA, ttun, TCU No guarantees but just win you should be in USC, Tenn The longstots Clemson LSU NCarolina With 3 weeks left we have a total we have 6 teams playing for 4 slots and 3 others hoping for chaos to open the door That is 4.4% of teams still alive with legitimate shot and additional 2.2% of teams that are long shots With the 12 team playoff There would be 33 teams (29 FBS) teams still playing for a shot at a playoff birth. In this scenario we would have nearly 25% of teams still playing for something more than a bowl bid with in a stadium filled with empty seats. I think when it comes to fruition I got a feeling that the general consensus would be Why did it take so long to get here. With the 12 team playoff, not only are conference champions valued way more, but the top 4 also get BYES. The Big XII and PAC 12 have had great seasons, and their champs should absolutely be in the playoff.
It will be way better. Shameful that its taken this long

Much of the discussion so far on this board has been what if the SE?gets three teams in the playoff……. But what if only gets one? Tennessee should win out and be sitting pretty at 11-1, but what if USC wins impressively in the PAC-12 title game? Will the committee leave out a one loss conference champ for Tennessee….. whom couldn’t even make their conference title game? On Name brand who’s better USC or Tennessee? The PAC-12 was a solid conference this year…… Are we going to leave out their conference champ? That’s a tough question for the committee…….couple that with TCU going undefeated and maybe the SEC only has one team in the playoff? Now imagine this TCU stays unbeaten and USC wins the Pac-12, LSU beats Georgia in the title game…… whom does the committee take? I think in that scenario, they take Tennessee
Ohio State vs. USC in the Fiesta TCU vs. Tennessee in the Peach
That would be one of the more exciting playoffs we've had
