The premise of my response was that the "little schools" were scared of the "big schools" playing at their stadium. Yes, Ohio State makes a whole lot more money per game than Appalachian does, which helps pay for the 36 sports they have, but when App. State goes to OSU, we get anywhere from $1.5 million to $2 million, which helps pay for our 17 varsity sports. And when App hosts a "big school", we sell out the stadium and we charge more for the ticket and we get more money.
And what about the money for Ohio State. What is the advantage of doing a home and home with Notre Dame or Oregon. Where OSU can sell 105K tickets and make a lot of money, look at the money they lose playing at Notre Dame, (less than 80K capacity) or Oregon (54K+ capacity) Look at the money OSU is losing by playing there.

Hero
The "little schools" DO want the Alabama's and Ohio State's to come to their school. They get a sell out, they get to show off their campus and stadium to the rest of the college sports world. And maybe get a win in front of the home crowd. And yes, the stadium may be full of the visiting fans and will not get a million dollar check, it is prestigious for the "little school" It's more like the "big schools" are scared to travel to play these games

They are, along with Ga. Southern and James Madison, but Western is our longest rival and the only other mountain state school that plays football. We are "Mountain Brothers", the ignored step children of the UNC system

All the rivalries listed are regional rivalries. Some may have playoff implications, but the fans and regions care more for it. Yes, the national media will pay more attention to Michigan vs Notre Dame and Georgia vs Clemson, but they always will because, for the most part, these teams are ranked. But for the fans of the schools listed above, they care more about their game than Michigan-Notre Dame. For me, I miss Appalachian's annual battle for the Old Mountain Jug with Western Carolina.

No, I don't think so. If the majority of the population is still in the East, the power would still be there

The ACC's future is hinging on Notre Dame. If the Irish and the ACC can work out a deal with the NBC contract and they join full time in football, and the ACC brings in a 16th team, the contract with ESPN can be renegotiated. That could bring in SEC/Big 10 type dollars to keep the members, FSU and Clemson, happy and keep the ACC a power conference.

According to internet posts, it is looking like the Big 12 is going to expand by getting the Pac 12's 4 corner schools (Colorado, Utah, Arizona and Arizona State). Some are stating as soon as the end of this month. This could spell the end of the PAC 12. It would make the Big 12 a player again. And make Utah and BYU conference opponents again.

Just read a post that the Big 10 is targeting 4 Pac 12 teams. Cal, Stanford, Wash and Oregon. It was on the internet, has to be true. But it was the MSN news site

These rules are to speed up the game. What makes the games so long is TV. If you go see an FCS or Div. II game, which has the same rules as FBS, even with a couple of pass happy offenses(which make games longer), they still get done in 3 hours.
