High school playoffs started around 1972 in Ohio. They started with 3 divisions and I believe they now have 6 divisions. Prior to the playoff, Massillon Washington High School had won quite a few state championships voted by the media. The legendary coach, Paul Brown got his start at Massillon and to this day when a little boy is born in town they place a mini-football in the crib.
Ironically, Massillon never won another state championship...until this year. They beat another powerhouse, Akron Hoban 7-2 in a defensive struggle. Hoban's last play was a 4th and goal pass from the 19 where the receiver got his hands on the ball but dropped the pass. Massillon finally won another state title and went undefeated in the process.

For a player who has never played in a meaningful game (for his team) most likely the last 3 months of the season. The Angels never finished above .500 with Ohtani - he has 2 MVP awards and hasn't played in a game that matters for most of his career. The Dodgers are loaded so that probably stops next year but what a joke.

Obviously I’d like to see him stay. But he’s a top 5 pick which should yield him around $20 million over 5 years. As a top 5 pick he’s going to a crappy team. But the same will happen next year if he stays in school. He could win a Heisman next year, I don’t think he’ll get it this year.
A big key is who will the QB be? Rumors are the Bucks are after Cam Ward from WSU - what effect would that have on Brown and Keinholz. They have Air Nolan’s coming in next year but he probably will sit and watch the first year.
Honestly, I’d love to see him back but I think his dad will counsel him to head to the NFL. I just hope wherever he goes they have a decent QB.

Dallas is a FUN place to go. Not as fun as New Orleans. I never had more fun than watching Texas beat UGA in the Sugar Bowl a few years ago, in a J6 bowl. The Sugar Bowl tickets now cost 3X what we paid for those. I won't be attending in person. That said, after doing some searching... I DID in fact purchase a $50 ticket on Texas in Vegas in September, before the Bama game... It was 24-1. I had forgotten about it. I buy one EVERY year.... I'm due. Just to go off on a tangent...
So what is there fun to do in Dallas? Just curious. If someone went to the Cotton Bowl, what is there else to do in Dallas?
We went to Dallas a few years ago for the OSU/TCU game and had a great time. We stayed in Grapevine at an air b & b and it was a couple blocks away from their annual wine festival which was a lot of fun. We did the JFK tour and went to the Stockyards in Ft. Worth. AT & T stadium was very cool and the Buckeyes won, all in all a great weekend!

Im a little worried about the Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl. They started as a 6.5b favorite and within days Missouri is now a 1 point favorite. OSU has seen 13 players enter the portal including starting QB Kyle McCord and running backs Chip Tryannum and Evan Pryor. Mayan Williams is already out due to injury so the Bucks are very thin at running back. Most of the other portal players were special team and buried on the debth chart but if Marvin Harrison Jr and Emeka Egbuka opt out - offense could be an adventure, get ready to hear Carnell Tate and Brandon Iniss as replacements.
Our daughter and son-in-law are taking us out to dinner the night of the game to thank us for their recent wedding. This was set before the bowl schedule came out and we don't have many other options as they are moving to Singapore in early January - she got an amazing offer to run a couple companies over there for a couple years. The dinner may spare me the agony of watching the Bucks look really bad against Missouri. Hopefully all the defensive players will decide to play.
On a separate note, I hate what college football has become. I've loved college football since the first game I ever watched but the portal, NIL, conference reallignment, fans with unrealistic expectations and quite honestly, all the talking heads who call themselves experts have done serious damage to the game I used to know. Just my 2 cents worth.

No, I am saying the ESPN propaganda machine would have rallied around Georgia to try and get them in over Ohio State I guess I am the only one who can remember ESPNs worship of USC or when they said Ohio State could not be stopped from winning three NCs in a row after they beat BAMA. ESPN is the ultimate bandwagon fan and will change at the drop of a hat and have done so repeatedly. I was going to chime in the same thing - I seem to recall everyone saying 2 loss USC was the better team to play Miami even though they lost to Kansas State and Washington State (a team Ohio State pounded). Carson Palmer was the Heisman winner that season.

You lose credibility when you use the word ‘retard’. Alabama had to be in and when that was the case Texas had to be in. They were fine pissing off one fan base but not 2. That’s why Georgia isn’t in. They dropped from 1 to 6! I don’t think anything like that has ever happened on the final poll, either. ok, I got rid of the word "retard"
And bottomline is they wanted to put the SEC Champion in regardless of what case or scenario unfolded. It's very obvious the way the narrative changed and terminology was altered to fit whatever decision came from the committee. Literally, the only poll where FSU is on the outside is the committee poll.
If there was any legitimacy to any garbage they spewed, FSU would have been at #5 before the last week. They probably would be below Georgia as well.
It's plainly a screwjob, and most sports media outside of the ESPN shills recognize this. Even people within ESPN see this. Even other SEC fanbases see this. It's not rocket science...they wanted the SEC Champ in period.
Thanks, I have a Down Syndrome niece and that word bothers me. And I agree with what you’re saying.

The playoff teams shouldn’t have anyone in the portal till after they play but I did see Alabama’s QB Buchner will enter the portal to play Lacrosse.

I keep seeing "well Alabama and Georgia would beat FSU by 30"
I really don't think these official retards get it yet...
As an FSU fan, I would MUCH rather go play in the playoff and lose by 30, then LOSE IN A FREAKING BOARDROOM CONDUCTED BY A GUY NAMED EFFING BOO
Playing on the field WILL ALWAYS trump losing in an office
There is no "deserving vs. best". This is terminology that ESPN came up with.
As in EVERY OTHER SPORT, playoff berths are Earned, not awarded on theoretical matchups or potential. They aren't handed out like participation trophies aka who is most deserving. Earning > deserving or best
Dan Mullen pointed this out on ESECPN

I swear to God, these idiots watch the NFL playoffs every year, possibly the NBA or MLB playoffs, and March Madness. And when it comes to college football, they turn into raging idiots
"Ya, but this team looks better than this team derrrrrrr"
As of next year, these raging idiots will lose, and people that understand how competition works will win. As I've been saying for years now, the playoff should be WIN YOUR CONFERENCE AND YOU ARE IN, and it will be
You lose credibility when you use the word ‘retard’. Alabama had to be in and when that was the case Texas had to be in. They were fine pissing off one fan base but not 2. McCord never appeared to have fun the entire season. I’m not sure he enjoyed the pressure of being Ohio States QB. And following Stroud, the expectations were far more than he could deliver.
Not sure what’s next but OSU has had 12 players enter the portal so they’ll be a lot of new faces in Columbus next year.

I’m not questioning who should or shouldn’t be in but think about this….
Florida State was #4 going into championship week. Texas was #7. Florida State beat the #14 team with their 3rd string qb while Texas beat the #18 team. What happens? Texas jumps to #3 while FSU drops to #5. Texas jumped 4 spots beating a lower ranked team than FSU beat. How does this happen?
Well, the committee HAD to get Alabama in and couldn’t do it without Texas due to their head to head game in September. It’s that simple. As Hero said, I’m surprised Georgia didn’t get a bid but that couldn’t happen due to the Bama loss to Texas - if Bama had to be in, so did Texas.
I’ll add this - look at the non-conference games played by FSU and Michigan - not even close. Each team had a different set of criteria.

Me too, especially given how pathetic UGAs schedule was - GT was their top OOC team, along with UT Martin, Ball State, UAB?? Coupled w/a weak SEC schedule. UGA was schedulled to play OK, but SEC made them cancel. Funny, Texas and Bama didn't have to cancel. Further, if Bama is left out, it could discourage scheduloing more meaningful OOC games. Well, what about FSU? They scheduled 2 SEC teams. Funny how this OOC issue is only coming up in regards to Alabama.
Michigan and Georgia schedule absolutely NO ONE OOC, played extremely easy schedules, and have been given the benefit of the doubt all year long
FSU deserves a bid - they did everything they were asked to do and played a far more difficult OOC schedule than Michigan. It would be a slap in the face if they're left out, regardless of the QB situation.

i would not be shocked if the top 4 are Michigan, Washington, Alabama and Georgia. I'd love to hear the committee explain this decision. At the same time, I don't want Michigan to win it all and if the final four are Michigan, Washington, Texas and FSU I think they will. Georgia and Alabama can beat Michigan and probably would. Still, it would be fun to watch the outrage if Alabama and Georgia are left out.

Hoping Alabama and FSU win and then watch the sideshow that is the college football selection committee tap dance around why they picked Alabama over Texas. I'd prefer to see UM lose, and then they can explain why B1G got left out. In that scenario the BIG would deserve to be left out because they let Iowa win the championship. Don’t think that will happen but I’ll smile if it does.
